The Reverend Alan R. Good passed away at home on Sunday, November 19. He and his wife Vicki had moved to De Pere, Wisconsin in April after residing for 30 years in the Gibson City, Loda, and Champaign areas. Alan was born on February 9, 1936 to Ray and Margaret (Friend) Good in Sturgis, Michigan. He began his high school years in Howe, Indiana but graduated from Sturgis, Michigan in 1954. He then attended and graduated from Butler University in Indianapolis, IN. Upon graduation, he was drafted into the US Army and served two years at Fort Knox, Kentucky. After his discharge from the Army, Good attended and graduated from the Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary at Louisville, Kentucky. He married Dorothea Lambeth in Fort Worth, Texas in 1963. After graduating from seminary, Good was ordained as a Presbyterian minister in the Mitchell, Indiana, Presbyterian Church on February 6, 1966. After serving in the Mitchell church, Good and his family moved to Ottawa, Illinois, where he began a 17-year ministry at the First Presbyterian Church of Ottawa. He later served in Presbyterian churches in Fairbury, IL, Peotone, IL, and Kankakee, IL as a supply pastor. He retired from the ministry in 2001.
Good married his current wife Vicki (Wahls-Broerman) on June 12, 1994. Their blended family consists of 5 children: Timothy (Caroline) Good, Karen (John) Schuler, BJ Broerman, Justin (Tina) Broerman, and Nathan Broerman; 13 grandchildren: Keri Good, Jon Good, Lauren (Nick) Tharp, Charlie Good, Fiona Good, Megan Schuler, Morgan Schuler, Heidi Broerman, Derrik Broerman, Brooke Broerman, Ari Broerman, Carson Falk, and Duke Moriarity; and 1 great-grandchild Avyana Schuler. Good had three siblings: Stanley Good, Becky (Paul) Lewis, and Rachel Sherman as well as brothers-in-law Jerry (Ida) Wahls and Steve (Kate) Wahls. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Stanley, a sister-in-law Patti Good, and a brother-in-law Joe Sherman. He is survived by his wife Vicki, his sisters, and numerous nieces and nephews who will remember his gentleness and kindness.
A Celebration of Life is planned for December 2, 2023 at the United Methodist Church in Loda, IL. Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM and the service will follow immediately at 11:00 AM. Memorials may be made to the Loda United Methodist Church or to Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity.
