William Huybrecht

March 29, 1932 — September 28, 2014

Husband. Father. Brother. Son. Uncle. Friend. Volunteer. Collector. William “Bill” Huybrecht passed away after a short illness at St. Vincent’s hospital on Sunday, September 28, 2014. He was born on March 29, 1932 in Green Bay, Wisconsin, the son of the late Alden and Delia (Selen) Huybrecht. He graduated from East High School in Green Bay and proceeded to serve as a member of the US Army during the Korean War. Bill was united in marriage to the love of his life Jean (Geurts) Huybrecht on October 22, 1966 and together they raised two sons. He was passionate about his work and was employed until his retirement in 1995 by Wisconsin Public Service. He was an avid volunteer, helping at the Rennes Health and Rehab Center and with the American Red Cross, making the “Gallon Club”, for many years. He enjoyed reading the Green Bay Press Gazette newspaper from cover to cover, collecting stamps as a member of the American Philatelic Society, visiting with the WPS Men’s Club, miniature bottle and coin collecting, playing cribbage, gardening, bowling league in his younger years, spending time with family and friends, and attending services as a member of Resurrection Parish. To his family and friends he had a generous spirit and a big heart, always willing to lend a hand. He will be deeply missed by his beloved wife Jean (Geurts) Huybrecht and their sons and families: Jeffrey and Jennifer Huybrecht of Maple Grove, MN, and Matthew and Melissa Huybrecht of Richfield, MN; his grandchildren William and John (Jeffrey); his sister, Carole Huybrecht of Chicago, IL; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Michael and Deborah Geurts of Green Bay; his nieces, Jennifer (Geurts) Elledge and Sarah (Geurts) Berg, and nephew Jason Geurts and their families; and many friends. He has been reunited with his parents, Alden and Delia (Selen) Huybrecht, his in-laws, Ernest “Ernie” and Florence (Peters) Geurts, and friends who passed on before him. Friends and family are encouraged to gather for visitation at Resurrection Catholic Parish of Green Bay, WI, on Friday, October 3, 2014 beginning at 9:00 am. A funeral mass will follow at 11:00 am with Bishop Robert Morneau officiating. Cotter Funeral Home is assisting the family. Online condolences may be expressed at www.cotterfuneralhome.com. Bill's family would like to send a heartfelt thank you to the Critical Care staff at St. Vincent’s Hospital.
