William "Dan" Broderick

May 6, 1934 — May 28, 2010

William D. “Dan” Broderick passed away May 28, 2010 at Birch Creek Health Care Facility in De Pere, WI, following a long battle against cancer. He passed away peacefully in his sleep. Dan was born in South Bend, Indiana on May 6, 1934 to the late Margaret Dwyer Broderick and William J. Broderick, the first investment officer of the University of Notre Dame which Dan proudly attended. Recruited into the Army from college studies for his promising medical skills, Dan was among the elite few who formed the nation’s first Special Forces unit—the famed ‘Green Beret’. Following military service, Dan relocated to Green Bay, WI and entered the restaurant supply business. In 1975, Dan began a distinguished career with Sanofi-Aventis in the food additive business. He worked in cutting-edge science associated with artificial flavor development and related corporate sales. He retired in 1995 as a senior account representative with major customers throughout the Midwest. Never one to voluntarily sit idle, Dan’s passion for business refocused on personal investment and small business ventures in retirement until illness prevented it. Mid-career, Dan relocated to Waukesha, WI and ultimately retired in Pewaukee, WI. Well-known for many passions: a good steak, a cold Brandy Manhattan, a sunset on Pewaukee Lake, or a Green Bay Packer or Notre Dame football game, Dan was known to enjoy all of these to the fullest—often with beloved dog, Calamity, at his side. Epitomizing a life-long ‘do-it-yourself’ spirit, Dan was never without a home improvement project and took great pride in his self-sufficiency. Dan is survived by seven children: Dr. Erin Broderick Davies and husband David Scibior of Cicero, NY, Stacy Broderick of Green Bay, WI, Marty Broderick and wife Becky of De Pere, WI, Michael Broderick of Green Bay, WI, Nicolas Broderick of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Dawn Heller and husband Andrew of Brookfield, WI, and Dean Miller and wife Amy of Lakewood, WA. He had ten loving grandchildren: Caitlin and Devon Davies, Sydney and Riley Broderick, Mackenzie Broderick, Hope, Brooke and Jacob Heller, Lorin and Emily Miller. Dan was preceded in death by his wife, Susan W. Broderick in August, 1996. Dan is also survived by his former wife, Janet Denys Broderick of Green Bay, WI; his sister, Margaret Broderick Gunn and husband Neil of Lake Forest, IL; and nieces, Dwyer and Jennifer. Dan was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Ann (Sue) Broderick Carney. His brother-in-law, Thomas Carney of Lake Forest, IL, and his nephews, Thomas and William also survive him. Family and friends may call Thursday, June 3, 2010 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Cotter Funeral Home, 860 N. Webster Ave., De Pere. Prayer Service will be at 6:00 p.m., with the Rev. John H.
