William "Bill" Cuene

September 17, 1932 — December 3, 2019

William R. “Bill” Cuene, age 87, of De Pere, passed away Tuesday, December 3, 2019. The son of the late Wilfred “Bill” and Mae (Eisch) Cuene was born September 17, 1932 in Appleton, WI. On April 24, 1954 he married Katherine “Kathy” Clark at St. Mary Catholic Church in Darboy, and she preceded him in death on March 17, 2009. Bill first worked for Broadway Garage, and later served as a volunteer for the De Pere Fire Department. He then served the City of De Pere for 28 years on the fire department, where he was a firefighter, lieutenant, captain and acting chief. His interests include hunting, fishing, playing and making cribbage boards, annual trips to Florida, and weekly Saturday lunches with his kids. Bill was a member of St. Mary’s Parish in Ledgeview.
Survivors include his children: Craig (Nan) Cuene, Chris (Amy) Cuene, Bob (Gail) Cuene, Brian (Deb) Cuene, Karen (Dean) Stoller and Scott (Lisa Manske) Cuene; grandchildren: Kelly (Bryon Gebhard) Cuene, Casey (Jess) Cuene, Carly (Justin) Schutt, Clare (special friend Andy Frank) Cuene, Ryan Cuene, Brett Cuene, Amanda Cuene, Alyssa (Theo) Cloud, Casey Stoller, Carson Stoller, Sydney Manske, Zack Manske and Abbey Manske; great-grandchildren: Mason, Aspen, Theo Jr. and Tristyn; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Pat Dwyer, Evie Cuene, Jean Kirschbraun and Frank Roseberry; as well as nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
In addition to his parents, Bill and Mae; stepmother, Marion Cuene and wife Kathy, Bill was preceded in death by an infant daughter; sisters, Ginny Dwyer and Peggy McGuire; brother Don Cuene; brothers-in-law: Roland McGuire, Don Marcouiller and Frank Kirschbraun; sisters-in-law: Adris Marcouiller and Jackie Roseberry.
Family and friends may visit at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 4805 Sportsman Drive, Ledgeview, on Saturday, December 7, from 9:00am until 11:15am. Mass of Resurrection will be held at 11:30am with the Rev. Richard Getchel officiating. Burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, De Pere. Cotter Funeral and Cremation Care is assisting with arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorials will be directed to the De Pere Fire and Rescue.
Our family would like to extend a special thank you to the caregivers at Rennes Health Center and Unity Hospice, as well as to the therapy staff, especially Amy Cavil, for their wonderful care given to Bill.
