Virginia Mae Stevenson

February 24, 1923 — November 4, 2015

Virginia Mae Stevenson, 92, passed away peacefully in her sleep on November 4, 2015, with her family at her side. Ginny was born in Marshfield, WI, February 24, 1923, the first of three children of George and Marion Schuelke. The family moved to Kingsford, MI, in the Upper Peninsula when Ginny was a small girl. She spent the rest of her youth there, graduating from Kingsford High School before moving back to Marshfield as a young woman. On October 23, 1954, Ginny married her husband of 55 years, Bob Stevenson. The following year they welcomed their first child, Kyle, and two years later, their daughter, Pat. After both of her children were in school, Ginny put her talents to work and held several secretarial jobs in the community, including time spent at Marshfield Junior High School, Columbus High School, and her final employer, the Chamber of Commerce. In addition to taking pride in her professional work, Ginny enjoyed music, loved playing bridge regularly with her good friends, Millie, Joanie, and Evelyn, and had the seeming ability to make things grow simply by looking at them. Ginny was an enthusiastic and long-time Packer fan, attending most games until doing so became a challenge. Ginny was very sentimental and kept almost every greeting card, Christmas card, birthday card, and Valentine that she ever received. Ginny was a member of Sacred Heart and St. John the Baptist Churches and attended church regularly until her health prevented her from doing so. After retiring, Ginny and Bob enjoyed traveling and took multiple trips to Hawaii, Mexico, Branson, and Arlington Race Track where she tried her luck betting on the horses. It was also in her retirement that Ginny welcomed her two grandchildren, Michael and Christina. Ginny loved spending time with her grandchildren and was a good grandmother to them. After her husband’s death, Ginny moved to De Pere to be closer to her children. She remained there until her death. Ginny was preceded in death by her parents, George and Marion Schuelke, her husband, Bob, her two brothers and their wives, George Schuelke, Jr. (Donna) and Fred Schuelke (Diane), her brother-in-law and his wife, Bruce Stevenson (Vera), her brother-in-law, Paul Stevenson, and a nephew, Jeff Schuelke. Ginny is survived by her children and their spouses, Kyle Stevenson (Penny) and Pat Stevenson (Bill Bosiacki), her two grandchildren, Michael and Christina Stevenson (Kyle and Penny), her sister-in-law, Marion Stevenson, and several nieces and nephews. Family and friends may visit at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 201 W. Blodgett St., Marshfield, on Monday, November 9, from 9:00am until the hour of mass at 10:30am with the Rev. Jim Logan officiating. Interment in Hillside Cemetery, Marshfield. Cotter Funeral Home and Crematory, 920-336-8702, is assisting the family. Online condolences at www.cotterfuneralhome.com The family would like to extend its deep and sincere gratitude to the staff of Angels on Arcadian Assisted Living and AseraCare Hospice for the outstanding professional and tender attention Ginny received while in their care. In lieu of flowers or other gifts, the family requests any donations be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
