Virginia Brey

March 20, 1929 — January 8, 2022

Virginia Brey, age 92, of rural Denmark, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 8, 2022 with family by her side. She was born on March 20, 1929 in Green Bay to Florian and Nettie (Maslowski) Novitski. On June 30, 1948 she married Wilbert Brey at St. James, Cooperstown, and celebrated 69 years together in 2017. She was a member of the Gibson Homemakers, VFW Auxiliary and worked as a Gibson poll worker. She enjoyed reading, puzzles, making quilts and cooking for her family. As a member of St. James Catholic Church in Cooperstown, she sang in the choir and was a member of the Christian Mothers Society.

Virginia is survived by her children: Wilbert Jr., Bernard, Sandra (Jack) Woodkey, Daniel (Julie), Jeffrey (Susan), Randy (Jeanne), David (Marlene), Brian (Jill), Cindy Hansen, Anthony (Patricia), Andrew (Lori), Todd (Joan), Joel (Sara) and Heidi (Mark) Dvorachek, 39 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law Atoya; siblings: Judy Melichar, Mary Pochron, Theresa Johnson, Joseph (Bonnie) Novitski, Rita Kielar and Bernie (Harold) King; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents, Florian and Nettie, and her husband, Wilbert, she was preceded in death by her son Kevin; son-in-law Dale Hansen siblings: Lillian Novitski, Daniel Novitski, John Novitski, Norbert Novitski, David (Grace) Novitski, Rudy (Grace) Novitski; in-laws: Joseph Kielar, Leo Melichar, Frankie Johnson, Stanley Pochron, Edwin (Florence) Brey, Norbert (Clara) Brey, Laverne (John) Wertel, father-in-law and mother-in-law Michael and Anna Brey as well as nieces and nephews.
Family and friends may visit at St. James Catholic Church, 18228 County Road R, Cooperstown, from 9:30am until 11:00am on Saturday, January 15. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30am, with the Rev. Santiago Turiano, Jr. officiating. Entombment in Knollwood Mausoleum, Manitowoc. Cotter Funeral and Cremation Care is assisting the family.
