Sophie M. Rosek Maternoski Vaessen, 99, De Pere, formerly of Glenmore, passed away Thursday, July 28, 2011 at a local nursing home. The daughter of the late Andrew and Frances (Siva) Rosek Sr. was born on January 13, 1912, in the Town of Glenmore, where she lived for most of her life. Sophie had worked as a waitress at the Beaumont Hotel (now the Days Inn) for many years, from 1947 until her retirement. While working at the Beaumont, she served the Downtown Green Bay Rotary Club for more than 40 years, and the Club made her a “Rotary Ann” in 1992, and also honored by being made a Paul Harris Fellow. As a member of the Wisconsin Women’s Bowling Association, Sophie was named a Grand Dutchess and the Senior Queen. She was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church- De Pere, the Altar-Rosary Society at the Church, the Xavier Guild, and had helped with funeral lunches at the Church for many years. Sophie was a member of the Happy Hoppers Dance Club, and the Wisconsin Women’s Bowling Association. The former Sophie Rosek and Ben Maternoski were married on January 7, 1929, and he preceded her in death on April 25, 1950. Sophie married John W. (Jonas) Vaessen on May 1, 1954, and he preceded her in death on September 27, 1974. Survivors include her 2 daughters: Phyllis (Maternoski) Linders, De Pere and Millie (Maternoski) (Ken) Bain; grandchildren: Gary Linders, Linda (Don) Cavanaugh, Sandra Healy, Sharon (Alvin) Styczynski, Brian (special friend Shirley) Bain, Bruce (Mary) Bain, Valerie (Paul) Albers, Brad Bain Peggy (Mark) Soderlund and Holly (Mark) Crysler; 26 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great grandchildren; brother, Andrew Rosek, Jr.; sister, Martha (Marvin) Vanden Langenberg; sisters-in-law: Ceil, Alvina and Dorothy Rosek; many nieces, nephews and special friends. She was preceded in death by: her husbands, son-in-law, Ignatius (Spike) Linders; 2 grand-daughters: Amy Bain and Mary Jo Linders; Sisters and brother-in-law: Mary (Alphonse) Polasik, Frances (Stanley) Niespodzany; brothers and sisters-in-law: Anton (Evelyn) Rosek, Frank Rosek, Joe (Lavina) Rosek, George Rosek, Edward Rosek, Dorothy Rosek. Family and friends may call at Cotter Funeral Home, 860 N Webster Ave, De Pere, from 4-8pm on Friday, July 29 (TODAY), with a rosary service at 7pm. Visitation will continue on Saturday, July 30, from 9:30am until the hour of Mass at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 220 S Michigan Street, De Pere. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11AM Saturday, at the Church, with Fr. Richard Getchel officiating and Fr. V. Anthony Dolski concelebrating.. Interment in Mt.
