Shirley Ann Gustafson, nee Berg, was born August 12, 1923 and grew up in Iron Mountain, Michigan. The daughter of Cleve and Laura (McNanny) Berg, Shirley attended Iron Mountain High School and Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti. She was married August 31, 1946 to her high school sweetheart Richard Gustafson. Shirley and Richard, an architect, started their family in Midland, Michigan, and moved to Green Bay in 1956 when Richard joined Somerville Associates. Early in their life together Shirley worked for Kaiser-Frazer in Michigan. Later, in the nineteen-seventies, she was employed by the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay.
She was preceded in death by her husband Richard Gustafson and sister Mary Jane Johnston.
Survived by daughter Gare Unnewehr of Chicago IL, son Crandon Gustafson and wife Sakae of Orlando FL, and son Kort Gustafson and wife Marie of Barrington IL; nephew Jonathan York of Nashville, Indiana; niece Beth Mathers and husband David, of Mooresville Indiana; four grandchildren, Ryan Gustafson of New York, NY; Gabriel Gustafson, Dominic Gustafson, and Fernando Gustafson of Barrington IL; and three grandnephews Colin Mathers, Tyler Mathers, and Troy Mathers.
Shirley was a member of the PEO Sisterhood, the Lady Bug Garden Club, and the Suspension Bridge Club. She engaged in volunteer work and looked forward to ringing the bell for the Salvation Army every year. Shirley loved travel, skiing and boating with her family.
Family and friends may visit at Cotter Funeral Home, 860 N Webster Ave, De Pere, on Friday, March 23, from 5-7pm. Visitation will continue on Saturday at Resurrection Catholic Church, 333 Hilltop Drive, Allouez, from 9:30am until 10:15am. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30am with Fr. Tim Shillcox, O.Praem officiating. Burial in Woodlawn Cemetery.
