Sharry A. Hanson

January 21, 1939 — January 12, 2024

Sharry A. Hanson passed peacefully on January 12, 2024 in De Pere during a snowstorm after a brave battle with Parkinson’s Disease.

Poetically, Sharry also happened to have been born in the middle of a January snowstorm in 1939 to Marian & Gilbert Olson of Valders, WI.

She married Ron T. Hanson from Manitowoc in 1967 and they had two children, Dave Hanson and Michelle (Nast) Hanson. She and Ron moved to the Green Bay area in 1979 where she raised her young kids. Sharry was a talented seamstress and retail associate working for Tom Kohls. Ltd and The Boston Store.

Shortly after the death of her husband Ron in 1992, Sharry faced, yet overcame a cancer diagnosis. Never one to feel sorry for herself, she transformed her life with the help of her family, as well as longtime and new friends that she made along her journey. Sharry was fun-loving and generous and accepted all people for who they truly were inside. She enjoyed traveling (Especially with Grandma June), going to concerts, lunching with friends, watching Packer and Bucks games, bird and squirrel watching and most of all shopping and interior decorating. After her retirement she became a foster grandparent for Encompass Childcare where she enjoyed the antics of two and three-year-olds. After her Parkinson’s diagnosis she became involved with Aurora Health’s Parkinson’s exercise program and was able to thrive despite her limitations. Sharry was also able to continue an active life with the help of the amazing Heidi Smythe and Joy Palzewic, whose friendship and dedication to her health needs undoubtedly extended her life and happiness.

Sharry’s kids and grandchildren were her ultimate source of happiness and pride. Despite some challenging circumstances, Sharry always made sure that her kids were loved and supported. She was always able to surprise her family on Christmas mornings and on birthdays and had a knack for pulling off map-less adventures. She loved spending any amount of time with Dave (Green Bay) and Michelle (West Bend) and their spouses Karin and Mike. She was especially thrilled to watch her grandkids grow up to be intelligent, kind and creative young people. Jacob Hanson (University of Minnesota), Lauren Nast (University of Vermont) and Ingrid Nast (University High School of MKE).
