Sally Ann Mathews

March 2, 1934 — September 18, 2022

Sally Ann Mathews, age 88, Green Bay, passed away with her family by her side on September 18, 2022. Sally was born to the late Leo and Cecelia (Kohlbeck) Martin. She graduated from De Pere High School and began work as an administrative assistant at Wisconsin Public Service. It was there that Sally would meet her loving husband.

On October 16, 1954 Sally married Eugene (Gene) Mathews at the First United Presbyterian Church in De Pere. Together Sally and Gene raised a family of three children in the Green Bay/De Pere area. Sally was a wonderful Mom, Grandma, and Great Grandma. Everyone looked forward to the times she would bake her homemade bread and cinnamon rolls, but her biggest calling card was her German Potato Salad…only a select few saw the leftovers.

After the kids had grown and throughout retirement Sally and Gene enjoyed doing many things together such as playing golf and traveling throughout the United States and abroad. They were especially fond of Door County and Florida where they established a second residence in Sun City Center for several years. In addition to travel, she enjoyed going to Disney World anytime she could.

Sally is survived by her children and grandchildren - Brian (Karen) Mathews and their sons Ryan (Alicia) Mathews, Casey (Whitney) Mathews, and Mitchell (Ashley) Mathews; Heidi (John) Zellner and their children Mathew (Kara) Zellner, and Ashley Zellner; additional grandchildren include Tami (Mike) Vieaux, Mike (Anne) McVey, and Keri (Chris) DePas;

great grandchildren, Cayleen, Ariel, Hunter, Brandon, Brooke, Jayden, Graham, Everett, Grayson, Mason, Lauren, and Rory. In addition, Sally is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Marsha Martin, several nieces, nephews, and step grandchildren.

Those who passed before Sally include her husband, Eugene (2004); parents, Leo and Cecelia Martin; daughter, Linda Doering; and brother, Robert Martin.

Family and friends may visit at Cotter Funeral Home, 860 N Webster Ave, De Pere, on Thursday, September 22, from 11-1pm.

The family would like to thank Dr. Brian Burnette, Green Bay Oncology, Unity Hospice and Bellevue Courtyard for their kindness and care during Sally’s final years.
