Ruth Lange

October 18, 1920 — January 30, 2011

Ruth Ruby Lange, 90, Denmark, passed from this life into the loving arms of her Savior on Sunday, January 30, 2011, at a local hospital. Ruth was born on October 18, 1920, in Henrysville, Wisconsin, to Reinhold and Tena (Yager) Valentine, the youngest of four children. On June 15, 1940, Ruth married Alden Lange at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Henrysville, and they enjoyed over 57 years together until he preceded her in death on Sept. 24, 1997. In the early years of their marriage, the couple farmed in Tisch Mills, later moving to Fontenoy, where they experimented with different types of farming before converting their farm into an egg production business, the Shady Lane Egg Farm. In her role of delivering the eggs to numerous businesses in Green Bay, Ruth was affectionately dubbed “the naughty lady of Shady Lane.” Ruth enjoyed summer weekends entertaining friends and playing cards at the family cottage in Townsend. She treasured each moment spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who will always remember “Grandma Ruthie” for her endless patience, unconditional love, card games, and lavish chicken dinners. In recent years, Ruth especially enjoyed her Thurs. night outings to Schuster’s. Ruth’s kind and gentle spirit and her insistence on putting the needs of others ahead of her own earned her the love and respect of all who knew her. She will be sadly missed by family, friends, and neighbors. Ruth is survived by two sons and one daughter-in-law, Ralph ( Leanne) Lange and Ronald Lange, Green Bay; four grandchildren, Vicki (Mike) Radue, De Pere; Wendy (Steve) Schilling, Maple Plain, Minn.; Brett (Teri) Lange, and Lance Lange, all of Green Bay; eleven great-grandchildren, Matthew (Sara) Zeitler; Nina Radue; Megan, Zachary, and Tianna Schilling; Noah, Elijah, Jacob, Natalie, and Kenji Lange; and Peyton Lange; three step great-grandchildren, Mike (Sarah) Radue and their daughter Sophia; Sara (John) Kocourek and their children, Corbin and Ruby; and Nathan Radue. Ruth is further survived by one sister-in-law, Dorothy (Don) Clausen, and many nieces and nephews. Ruth was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Alden; a cherished great-granddaughter, Katie Zeitler; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Gilbert (Ruth) Valentine; Ruben (Jane) Valentine; one sister, Erna Dahlke; and two brothers-in-law, Awald Dahlke and Norris Johnson. Visitation will be at Christ Lutheran Church, Denmark, on Friday, Feb. 4, from 9:00 until the time of service at 11:00 with the Rev. Robert Romberg officiating. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established in Ruth’s name. Ruth’s family wishes to thank her wonderful friends and neighbors in Denmark, whose loving care and concern enabled Grandma Ruthie to remain in her own home. Thanks, too, to the very special staff of Unity Palliative Care. May God bless you all!
