Russell M. Matzke, 83, De Pere, passed away Wednesday, September 26. He was born March 1, 1929 in the Town of Bellevue to the late Earl and Annie (Scray) Matzke. He married Joan Gauthier on May 9, 1953 at St. Mary’s Church in De Pere. Russ served in the U.S. Army from January of 1951 to February of 1953. He was employed at Olson Transportation Company from 1953 to 1968 and at C.W. Transport from 1968 to 1988 and was a member of the Teamster’s Union for 35 years. He was a member of the De Pere Area Men’s Club and the American Legion Post 11, Green Bay. Survivors include his children: Craig (Cindy) Matzke, Lora Henkel, Karen (Bill) FitzGerald, Alan (Toni) Matzke; grandchildren: Nick (Adrian) Matzke and Kristin (Alan) Damato, Anne (Michael) Hedrick, Kelcie and Russell Henkel, Jack, Brian and Michael FitzGerald, Jason, Matthew, Shelby and Lukas Matzke; great-grandchildren: Austin and Rylee Hedrick, brothers and sisters-in-law: Patricia Matzke, Dorothy Matzke, Gene (Mary) Gauthier, Ruth Utschig, Rita (John) Drewieske, Sylvester Jankowski and Donald Gazella. Russell was preceded in death by his wife, Joan, parents, brothers: Merle (Dorothy) Matzke, Mike Matzke, Donald Matzke, Robert (Leona) Matzke, Jerry (Janice) Matzke; sisters: Erna (Bob) Brosig, Elizabeth (Chet) Corrigan, Shirley Jankowski, Eunice Gazella and Mary Lou Randall. Family and friends may call at Cotter Funeral Home, 860 N Webster Ave, De Pere, from 4-8pm on Friday, September 28 where there will be a parish prayer service at 7:30pm. Visitation will continue on Saturday, from 9:30am until the hour of Mass at St. Mary Catholic Church, 4805 Sportsman Drive, Ledgeview. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11am Saturday, at the church, with the Rev. Richard Getchel officiating. Interment in Mt. Olivet Catholic Cemetery, De Pere.
