Rosemary Van Straten

March 4, 1928 — November 3, 2011

Rosemary Van Straten started a new life in heaven Thursday, Nov 3rd, joining her husband of 62 years, son, and many cherished friends and relatives. Although Rosemary’s passing leaves a void in the lives of many, all are thankful for the example of strength and compassion that she shared during her 83 years of life. A lifelong resident of De Pere, she was one of 12 children, daughter of the late Alphonse and Petronella (Baeten) DeVleeshower. On July 10, 1946 she married Bernard Van Straten. During the early years of their marriage Bernard took ownership of his parent’s farm and together they were blessed with nine children. Rosemary dedicated her life to her family. As a mother, she took pride in each child, always encouraging each other to offer help when needed and to celebrate the joy of accomplishments. Her family includes the following children and their spouses: Carol and Joseph Biese of Green Bay; Marlene and Jim Johnson of Katy, Texas; Darlene Van Straten and Hann Shyu of Portsmouth, Rhode Island; Debbie Van Straten and Tom Zwicker of Germantown; Lou Ann Bannow of Suamico; Gail and Bob Cuene of De Pere; Ron and Jessica Van Straten of De Pere; Judy and Joseph Siudzinski of Green Bay. She leaves behind 19 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Rosemary was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard; son, Wayne; nine brothers and sisters: Joe and Helen DeVleeshower, Eleanor and Pete Patterson, Art and Verna DeVleeshower, Angie Baeb, Eda and Louis Gerrits, Earl and Ida DeVleeshower, Ervin DeVleeshower, Pearl DeVleeshower, and Henry DeVleeshower. Relatives and friends may call at St. Mary Catholic Church, 4805 Sportsman Drive in Ledgeview on Monday, November 7, 2011 from 9:00 to 11:00 am. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at the church on Monday at 11:00 am with Rev. Richard Getchel officiating. Cotter Funeral Home, De Pere is assisting the family with arrangements.
