Rosemary (Blohowiak) Laes

March 13, 1935 — April 18, 2015

Rosemary Laes, 80, Allouez, passed away on April 18, 2015. She was born March 13, 1935 to the late Frank and Rose (Piglowski) Blohowiak. She grew up on a farm atop Scray's Hill and attended Kiley School and delighted in the adventures of a one room schoolhouse. Upon graduating from East De Pere High School, she began her working career as a bookkeeper for Rock Finance in Green Bay. She then left for California to study nursing at Compton College. However, an enterprising young man by the name of Larry Laes, found that he could not live without her company. He gathered Rosemary's parents, drove to California, and the two married at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Downey, CA on October 18, 1955 (He preceded her in death on April 19, 2011). They returned to Green Bay, raising a family and operating Laes Motors, where Rosemary was bookkeeper and office manager. While Rosemary never officially became an RN, she provided health care to all her immediate and extended family members and fulfilled her calling in this respect. It was often a thankless task and she never minded. In addition, she served her community being a volunteer for Meals on Wheels, St. Matthew Altar Society and was willing to lend a helping hand when called upon by others. Rosemary also counted many of her tenants as friends over the years and was grateful for the many who treated their residences as home. Along with winter travels to Palm Springs, CA and Florida, Rosemary and Larry enjoyed vacationing at their summer home in Egg Harbor, WI and spent many rounds of golf together, as well as boating and just sitting on the deck and watching the sunset while enjoying a Margarita. It was at this venue that she was sole proprietor of Rosie's Cafe, and her renowned talents as a chef were fully utilized. She never knew when her husband or children would be surprising her with a crew of people, but she would magically have a warm meal available to all. It was amazing for her to have had the company of captains of industry, authors and entertainers, politicians and many other guests dining at her cafe and become good friends along the way. Following the passing of Larry on April 19, 2011, Rosemary forged onward by meeting up with old schoolmates and doing monthly luncheons with the Old Weeds. She also travelled to see family members and enjoyed being part of a bereavement group at her home parish, St. Matthew's Church. She is survived by her five children, Douglas, Daniel, Cheryl (special friend,Don Hoff), Ann Marie and Diane; her grandchildren, Jonathan and Katherine Laes. Her sisters, Frances Schmitt, Rita Dettmers, Ruth Ann (Jerry) Wright, and brothers Frank (Norma) Bahowick and Norbert Blohowiak. She is further survived by Larry’s family; Joseph Laes, Elizabeth Laes, James (Patricia) Laes, Raphael Laes, John (Marlene) La Violette, Robert Laes, Sharon Mero, Mary Koty, David Laes, Dan (Bonnie) Hall; as well as many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her sister, Dorothy (Ed) Wise and brother's Robert and Charles; 3 brothers-in-law and 3 sisters-in-law. Family and friends may visit St. Matthew Catholic Church, 130 St. Matthew St., Allouez, on Thursday, April 23, 2015 from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of Mass at 11:30 a.m., with Fr. Philip Dinh-Van-Thiep officiating. Entombment will be in Allouez Catholic Mausoleum. Cotter Funeral Home and Crematory is assisting the family. Online condolences may be expressed at www.cotterfuneralhome.com. Rosemary was grateful to have been able to remain at home during the course of her illness and have all her children surrounding her as she left her earthly confines and once again was able to join all those who have gone before her.
