Ronald W. Moureau

May 26, 1953 — July 1, 2022

Ronald W. Moureau, “Grandpa Ron,” passed away in his sleep from natural causes on July 1, 2022 at the age of 69.

Other than when he attended UW Oshkosh, Ron spent his whole life living in West De Pere and the Town of Lawrence. For over 50 years, Ron worked alongside his mother, Bernie, operating Bernie’s Specialty Cake Shop. When Bernie retired, Ron’s son George became his partner. Ron was so proud of the baking George had perfected and the two were attached at the hip for the last 37 years. Through attending countless Broadway musicals and many trips to New York, Ron instilled in his son a deep love of music and the arts but even more, comedy. One could not tell a joke without the other saying the punchline.

After closing the bakery in 2017, Ron began working for the Town of Lawrence, mowing parks and cemeteries. In his words, he became a “Lawn Care Specialist. Just look at those stripes!”

In addition to creating impressive cakes and lawns, Ron was well known for his fantastic wit and sense of humor, his love of Wisconsin’s professional sports teams, cool cars and fishing on his pond. In 2016 when Ron became a grandfather, his life was complete. He had his wife, his kids and his grandson and that was everything he needed. The many hours he was able to spend with Ev playing Ninja Turtles, fishing, building forts, magnet towers, sand castles and art projects were all so dear to his heart, and nothing was better than a snuggle and a snack with Ev before bedtime.

Ron is survived by his wife of 39 years, Nancy (Thyssen) Moureau, son George Moureau, daughter Jessie (Nathan) Waack, cherished grandson Everett Waack, brother Tim (Sheila) Moureau, sister Judy Pakanich, brothers-in-law Wayne Thyssen and Mike (Terry) Thyssen, sisters-in-law: Annette Thyssen, Joan Anderson, Luann (Pete) Thomson, Grace (Greg) Boncher, Ellen (Frank) Turriff, Yvonne (Joe) Schauer, many nieces, nephews and cousins, and special friends Tim Von Hoff, Jerry and Diane Konitzer, Carl Pugh and Sean Shoemaker.

Ron is preceded in death by his parents George and Bernadine Moureau, father-in-law Ray Thyssen, mother-in-law Loretta Thyssen, brothers Gary Moureau and Dan Moureau, brothers-in-law Ralph Thyssen, Lee Anderson and Wes Kupsky, and sisters-in-law Judy (Thyssen) Kupsky and Paula (Nelson) Thyssen.
