Ronald Buttke

Ronald C. Buttke, 87, of Green Bay passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 24, 2016 in Chandler, AZ following a brief illness. Ron was born on October 30, 1928 in Waupaca, the son of Anton J. and Eleanora (Krahn) Buttke. Following his honorable discharge from the US Navy (1946-1948) he enrolled at Central State Teachers College (UW-Stevens Point) where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Education degree. It was during college that he met Lois (Ihlenfeldt), his wife of 65 years. They were married in Wausau on August 19, 1950. Like his father, Ron spent his entire career with Wisconsin Public Service Corporation, retiring as Real Estate Supervisor in 1991 after 41 years of service. Since retiring, he regularly spent time with his friends and co-workers having coffee, playing cards and offering insight into the affairs of the world. He also loved playing golf and cribbage as well as listenting to classical music. He and Lois traveled the world and enjoyed wintering at their home in Arizona. Ron was a member of the American Right-Of-Way Association (Wisconsin chapter president), Y’s Men and the Brown County Historical Society (president). He volunteered with the Red Cross, Salvation Army and Meals On Wheels. In his younger years he enjoyed skiing and was a skilled trap shooter. Ron was also a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Allouez holding various offices and was a member of the choir where “daddy sang bass”. He is survived by his wife Lois and their three children: Roger (Linda) Buttke of Kohler, WI; Sara (Howard) Carstens of Andover, MN; Dirk (Kathy) Buttke of Rockford, MI; grandchildren Jack (Becky) Buttke of Maple Grove, MN; Sam Buttke of Chippewa Falls, WI; Kristen (Brian) Volz of Ferndale, MI; Kara Buttke of Cut Bank, MT; Will Carstens of Andover, MN; Meredith Carstens of Andover, MN and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Betty Footit. Funeral services will be held at Faith Lutheran Church, 2335 South Webster Avenue, Allouez, on Friday, February 12, 2016 at 11 a.m. with visitation from 9:30 am until time of service. Interment in Woodlawn Cemetery. Cotter Funeral Home and Crematory is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be sent to www.cotterfuneralhome.com.
