Roger A. Olson

June 12, 1952 — September 14, 2023

Seventy-one years ago on June 12th, 1952, Anton and Amelia (Turnbull) Olson of Hayward, WI announced the birth of their third child Roger Arnold. Sadly, he quietly passed on Thursday, September 14th, 2023, after fighting a courageous, long battle with early onset Alzheimer’s disease.

Roger grew up in Hayward alongside his three surviving siblings: sister Virginia (Geoff) Dorr, Rockford IL, brothers Ron Olson, and John (Connie) Olson, Hayward. He ventured to Green Bay to work for The Great Atlantic and Pacific Tea Company, as he liked to reference it. Shortly thereafter, Roger gained employment with Fort Howard/ Fort James/ Georgia Pacific until his retirement. He worked in Fort Howards’ elite dedicated fleet and later in the shipping sector.

Roger was united in marriage in 1974 to Carol (Corrigan), for the luxury of nearly fifty years together. A testament to the fact that he was careful never to abandon his sense of banter. Together, they welcomed two children into this world: a daughter, Megan Olson, Glendale, AZ, and a son, Daniel (Amber) Olson, Broomfield, CO. Three grandchildren (life’s desserts) granddaughter, Raelle Sophia, grandson, Beckett Roger, and a future granddaughter arriving in February 2024.

Roger was a wonderful individual, a devoted loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He was a shining example of how to be a gentleman. Even in his sickness his caregivers commented what a gentle, kind person he must have been throughout his life. This characteristic remained present even under horrible circumstances, which demonstrated a true mark of his character.

The family of Roger extends their sincere gratitude to several groups and individuals. The nurses and staff at Rennes Health Center for the continuum of care given which will always be remembered. Doctor Bozena Biernat and staff at Bellin Health for their expertise and compassion. Curative Connections for the initial unrelenting support they provided. Unity Hospice, Michelle, Christine, and Steve, our gratitude is unending. Jack and Engrid Meng Hospice Residence for their meticulous care and attention to Roger and Carol in his final journey. Also, to our family, friends, and neighbors for their incredible kindness, a heartfelt thank you. Words cannot express how grateful we are to all of you.

“Do not ask me to remember, don’t try to make me understand, let me rest and know you’re with me, kiss my cheek and hold my hand” - Owen Darnell
