Robert Leo Geurts

Robert Leo Geurts, 85, of Green Bay, passed away peacefully on August 14, 2021.  Robert was born in Green Bay, Wisconsin on January 31, 1936 to the late Raphael J. and Helen M. (Doyle) Geurts. He was a 1954 graduate of Green Bay West High School.  Robert received a football and track scholarship to attend the University of Wisconsin—Madison, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in economics in 1959.   

From 1959-1963, Robert was on active duty as a helicopter pilot in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Iran for one year.   He married Mary Elizabeth Roberts on November 30, 1963 in Minot, ND.  He raised his family in De Pere and in later years moved back to Green Bay.    

Robert was a self- employed insurance salesman for most of his life.  
He loved flying helicopters and remained in the U.S. Army Reserves until he retired in 1996. Robert was a loyal Detroit Tigers and Green Bay Packers fan. He spent many years volunteering as a coach for Little League and American Legion baseball in De Pere. He also enjoyed playing cards and cribbage. 

He is survived by his children, Michael Geurts and Lori Geurts; his daughter-in-law, Pardiese (Klauss) Geurts; grandchildren, Zacharie and Benjamin Geurts; his sister, Mary Knuth and his close companion of 17 years, Gloria Shea.  

He was preceded in death by his wife Mary; son Geoffrey; and his parents Helen and Ray.   

The family is deeply grateful to Malu Oldenburg for her kindness to Robert in his final years.  Robert will be sadly missed by all who loved him. 

Family and friends may visit at St. Willebrord Catholic Church, 209 S. Adams St., Green Bay, on Thursday, September 9, 2021 from 3:00PM to 3:45PM.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Robert at 4:00PM with Rev. Andrew Cribben, O.Praem officiating.  Family will also greet friends following services.  Interment in Mt. Olivet Catholic Cemetery.  Cotter Funeral and Cremation Care is assisting the family with arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may go to The American Legion Legacy Scholarship Fund.
