Robert ""Jim"" Brown

May 1, 1921 — October 5, 2016

Robert J. “Jim” Brown, age 95, passed away October 5, 2016. He was born in St. Clair, MI on May 1, 1921 to the late Roy and Winifred Brown. On June 17, 1950 he married Winifred (Winnie) Scholtz of Iron Mountain, MI. They celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary in June. Bob attended St. Clair High School in St. Clair, MI, and was then employed by the Michigan Bell Telephone Co. in Pt. Huron, MI. In 1942, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and became a Pharmacist’s Mate First Class and served at Great Lakes Training Center, Great Lakes, IL, and in Guadocanal in the South Pacific attached to the U.S. Navy Mobile Hospital #8. After returning to the states, Bob assisted as a physical examiner in Chicago for V5 officer candidates until he was honorably discharged in April, 1946. After the service Bob attended Pt. Huron Junior College and Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, MI where he obtained a B.S. degree in Physical Education and went on to the University of Michigan school for an M.A. degree in secondary administration. Bob and Winnie moved to Appleton, WI where he worked for General Foods Company and later for the Borden Food Company, a trial as a teacher found it wasn’t his niche. In 1960, at the age of 39, Bob returned to college at the State University of Iowa where he obtained a Certificate in Physical Therapy which became his profession until final retirement in 2000. They settled in Green Bay in 1965 where Bob was employed by the Curative Workshop of Green Bay, Clintonville Community Hospital and later at St. Mary Hospital, where he was chief therapist for 15 years before retiring in 1983. Total retirement was not for Bob, so he returned to work for the NEW Curative Rehabilitation Center in their Home Health Program for 15 years before officially retiring again in 2000. Bob enjoyed people and caring for his patients. His listening skills and compassion endeared him to his clients. For recreation, Bob enjoyed playing golf with friends and he and his beloved Winnie had many wonderful golf vacations around the country. He was a member of Resurrection Parish in Allouez since 1965. Survivors include his wife, Winnie; daughters: Mary Ellen of Green Bay and Margaret Ann of Gray, GA; grandchildren Nicholas (Sara) Brown, Kathryn (Katie) and Benjamin (Ben) Morris; brother-in-law, Francis (Barb) Scholtz; many nieces, nephews and friends.
