Robert "Bob" Winnekens

Robert J. (Bob) Winnekens, age 66, of Denmark, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, November 27, 2014 of heart complications. The son of the late Lawrence and Margaret (Pieschek) Winnekens, was born September 1, 1948, with an identical twin, Richard, who passed away shortly after birth. He graduated from Denmark High School in 1966 and went on to NWTC to learn the barber trade. After being a barber in Green Bay, Bob worked at Green and Gold Concrete, and later went on to run his own business, Form-Rite Construction. On October 14, 1972, he married Donna Dorner. He became a father on October 8, 1981 and a proud grandfather on October 13, 2003. A natural teacher, Bob was always sharing his wisdom. Whether it was during a walk in the woods or on a drive around the country, Bob loved to share knowledge and stories with his daughter and granddaughter and to anyone who would listen. He was a family man with a contagious laugh and smile and he was well known for his humor and teasing his family and friends. He was an avid sportsman, especially enjoying hunting rabbits with his beagles, deer hunting, fishing, bowling, baseball, playing cards, Old Western Movies, the holiday seasons, and was a dedicated fan of the Packers and Brewers. Bob enjoyed traveling to Canada and the Southern U.S. on hunting trips, and also enjoyed hunting, fishing and visiting with his many friends on Washington Island. Bob was a very loving father, grandfather, brother and uncle. Survivors include: his daughter, Molly Winnekens and her daughter, Madeline; siblings: Charles L. Winnekens, Gerald (Debbie) Winnekens, Jeannie (Dennis) Dewane and Andrew (Monica) Winnekens; nieces and nephews: Chad, Tina, Tamera, Jerry, Brian, Mary, Sarah, Jamie, Jill, Tara, Laura, Brooke and Ryan; one aunt, Clara Winnekens; as well as great-nieces and nephews, other family, friends, and his Washington Island family. In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his identical twin brother, Richard, twin siblings: June and Robert; sister, Dorothy; his nephew, Jacob Winnekens; maternal and paternal grandparents, other aunts, uncles and family. Family and friends may visit at Knutson-Cotter Funeral Home, 536 Cty Road R, Denmark, on Tuesday, December 2, from 3-7pm, with a parish prayer service concluding the visitation. Visitation will continue on Wednesday morning, starting at 9:00am until the time the procession leaves for church at 10:30am. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. James Catholic Church, 18228 Cty Road R, Cooperstown, at 11:00am on Wednesday, with the Rev. William O’Brien Officiating. Burial in SS. Cyril and Methodius Cemetery, Eaton. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established.
