Richard J. Schmitz

Richard J. “Dick” Schmitz, 85, Clearwater, FL, formerly of Green Bay, passed away Tuesday, June 11, 2013. He was born September 19, 1927 in Green Bay, son of the late Rudy and Florence (Karn) Schmitz. Richard graduated from Central Catholic High School and served his country in the United States Army. He married “Midge” Liebl on October 25, 1947, the mother of their six children. Richard later married his current wife, Naomi Wetts, on May 9, 1981, in Kauai, Hawaii. He enjoyed golfing, duck hunting, walking, was an avid boater, and loved his morning breakfast at the Allouez Cafe. He is survived by his wife, Naomi Schmitz, Clearwater, FL; children: Jeannie (Gary) Poehls, De Pere, and her children, Amy (Mike) Rader and Karl Poehls; Julie (Gary) Albers, and their sons, Brian, Gregory, and Andrew, Sylvania, OH; Peter (Carol) Schmitz, and their son, Eric, Wauconda, IL; Paul (Irene) Schmitz, Coral Springs, FL, and his children, Christine, Jennifer, and Sara; Jenny (Andre) Buckles-Jacob, Los Angeles, CA, and their children, Derrick Landry, Thomas Jr., Matthew, and Megan; Janet King, Denver, CO, and her children: Christopher, Melissa, Michelle, Sean, and Tyler; 12 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters: Bill (Adrianne) Schmitz, Green Bay, Rose Marie Kelly, Green Bay, John (Carol) Schmitz, Suamico, and Mary (Edward) Bartley, Pinehurst, NC; and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends in Florida and Wisconsin, other family and friends. Richard is preceded in death by his parents, Florence and Rudy Schmitz; sister, Jeanne Anne; brother-in-law, Paul Kelly; sons-in-law, Tom Buckles and Harold King. Family and friends may call Friday, June 14, 2013 from 1:30 p.m. until the hour of Memorial Mass at 3:30 p.m. at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church, 130 St. Matthew St., Allouez, with Fr. James Neilson O.Praem officiating. Interment will be in Allouez Catholic Cemetery. Cotter Funeral Home and Cremation Service, De Pere, is assisting the family.
