Richard F. Murphy

November 24, 1936 — September 5, 2017

Richard F. Murphy (80) passed away September 5th, 2017 in De Pere. He was born November 24th, 1936 in Green Bay to the late Maxwell and Genevieve Murphy. Dick’s interest during a full life included spending time with his family, sailing and working on his father’s many sailboats. He also loved traveling the country in his RV’s attending rallies all over the United States. As part of his travels, he was a dedicated member of the Wisconsin Voyagers and the Family Motor Coach Association and enjoyed meeting many new friends with those groups. Dick was also a longtime member of the Sturgeon Bay Yacht Club and the M M Yacht Club. He particularly enjoyed watching the sailboat races there, the 100 Miler was one of his favorites. Dick always had a story to share or a way to make you laugh. For most of the past 30 years, Dick enjoyed his winters in Port St. Lucie, Florida and summers in Door County, Wisconsin. He enjoyed visiting his sister Ann Dorr Mortell both in Florida and in De Pere over the years. He had a special appreciation for his nieces and nephews (the kids) growing up and was very involved in their lives; with the kids affectionately calling him “Uncle Dick.” Dick is survived by his nieces Barbara Ann Hervey (Scott) in Memphis, TN; Marcia Dorr Blumb (Jeffrey) Green Bay; Genevieve (Jenny) M. Mortell (Cromwell, CT); and Susan Murphy Mortell (Chicago, IL); and nephew Gerald J. Mortell, III (Ellen) in Green Bay. Other family survivors include seven grand nieces and nephews including Max, Peter, and Colleen Mortell; Griffin and Olivia Ann Dorr Blumb; Sarah Elizabeth (Andy) Wiles and Patrick Hervey. Family and friends may visit at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, 2771 Oakwood Dr, Green Bay, on Tuesday, September 19, from 9:30am until the time of Memorial Mass at 11:00am with Rev. Jim Feely officiating and Sr. Marla Clercx, A.N.G. assisting. Interment at Woodlawn Cemetery, Green Bay. Cotter Funeral Home and Crematory is assisting the family with arrangements.
