Richard "Dick" Ullmer

June 28, 1925 — October 3, 2012

Richard Ullmer, 87, De Pere, passed away Wed., Oct. 3. The son of the late Leo and Erma (Delahut) Ullmer was born June 28, 1925 in De Pere, Wis. Richard served as a Marine during WWII in the Pacific Theater, receiving a Purple Heart and becoming an Atomic Vet; he worked as a carpenter for over 50 years, serving as president of the Carpenter’s Local 1146 for 25 years and president of the Fox Valley chapter for 10 years; he also boxed the Golden Glove circuit in 1950. Richard loved the out-of-doors, joining his friends and family for annual deer hunting and he loved to trim trees for his church and family. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Jacqueline (Strehlow) and two daughters Miriam Pagano, Carmel, California and Barbara (Ron) Bernard, Green Bay; his three grandchildren: Jack Schultz, Austin, TX; Matthew Bernard, Green Bay; Alexis Pagano, Chicago; his sister, Arlene Mellinger, Appleton; sister-in-law, Jean (Kerin) Ullmer, Green Bay; Brothers and sisters-in-law: Bill Strehlow, Green Bay, Robert (Sherrie) Strehlow, Crivitz, and Maxine Picard, Green Bay; nieces and nephews: Marla (Pete) Nelson, Appleton; Mark (Millicent) Mellinger, Oregon; Marcia Mellinger, Kansas; Jim Ullmer, North Carolina; Jean (Henri-Claude), Boston; Dolores (Jean-Pierre), Madison; David (Shirley) Ullmer, Menasha; Dan (Debra) Ullmer, North Carolina; Randy Ullmer, De Pere; Peter (Tammy) Ullmer, De Pere; and many great nieces and great nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers: Armond, Quenten (Angie), Clayton, Gordon (died in WWII), and Roger; brother-in-law, Albert Mellinger, sister-in-law Angie Ullmer and nephew Stevie. Family and friends may call Tues., Oct. 9, 2012 from 9:00a.m. until the time of Memorial Mass at 11:00am at Resurrection Catholic Church, 333 Hilltop Drive, Allouez, with Bishop Robert Morneau officiating. Cotter Funeral Home and Cremation services is assisting the family. Online condolences may be expressed at www.cotterfuneralhome.com. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established. Richard’s family extends a sincere thank you to the staff at Bellin Health and Unity Hospice for all of the care and concern shown to him.
