Richard (Dick) Oliver, 87, Green Bay passed away Sunday, October 14, 2018. Born in Woodstock, IL on April 3, 1931. Graduated from Marquette High School in Milwaukee and Marquette University College of Business Administration with a B.S. Degree.
Dick served in the US Army during the Korean War. Formerly employed by US Gypsum Company and Maysteel Products, Inc. as a sales representative and sales engineer respectively.
Dick purchased Smith Abstract & TITLE, Inc, in Green Bay WI in 1970. He was the former President and Director of Wisconsin Land Title Association and on the Board of Governors and President of the American Land Title Association, Washington, D.C.
In civic matters, Dick served on Planning and Zoning Boards in Wauwatosa and also the Village of Allouez. Served as Associate Chairman of the Allouez Centennial and as General Chairman of Allouez Bi-Centennial Committee. He served as the Charter President of the Allouez Optimist Club and was a member of the Board of Directors of the Brown County Humane Society, and Associate member of the Green Bay Board of Realtors, Brown County Home Builders Association and the Green Bay Area Chamber of Commerce.
Dick enjoyed skiing, sailing, and golf. He was an avid history fan and of the Journals of Lewis & Clark, The Civil War and Irish History.
(He also owned a 1919 Model T Ford “Lizbeth” and a 1930 Model A Ford “Rosebud”, which he loved taking for a ride in the countryside.
Dick married Catherine (Kitty) E. Hogan of De Pere in 1956. Kitty passed away on their 53rd wedding anniversary. He is survived by three children, Daniel J. and Sandy Oliver, Genevieve A. (Oliver) and Anthony Hoes, and Timothy J. and Michelle (Horn) Oliver, his grandchildren Tyler Oliver, Alex Oliver, Ben Oliver, Nick Horn, Samuel Oliver, Jordan Oliver, Brian Oliver, Adam Hoes, one granddaughter, Sarah Hoes, and one great grandchild, Harrison Oliver. He is further survived by a sister Virginia O. Rogers, along with his sister-in-law Marsha Oliver, and many relatives in the Milwaukee and Chicago Areas.
Dick sold the 107-year-old Abstract Company, now known as First American Title Insurance in 1996, to Evans Title Company. Dick and Kitty retired and spent the winter months in Apopka, FL at Errol Estates Country Club.
Dick and his wife, Kitty had the distinction of and surviving both the 1989 San Francisco earthquake and the New York attack on September 11th, 2001. He was very proud of his strong Irish heritage, rebuilding bonds with many relations in Ireland and a good laugh.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents, Stewart T. Oliver and Genevieve M. Oliver. Also, by a sister, Patricia J. Poole and brothers, Stewart T. Oliver, Jr., Donald E. Oliver, and Robert W. Oliver.
Dick will be missed by his family and community, but he will finally meet with Kitty again.
Friends and family may visit at Resurrection Parish Family, 333 Hilltop Drive, Allouez, on Friday, October 19, 2018 from 9:00 – 10:45 am. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11:00am with Fr. Tim Shillcox, O.Praem officiating. Cotter Funeral and Cremation Care is assisting the family.
