Richard Cavil

July 25, 1936 — May 12, 2024

Dick was born on July 25, 1936 to the late Dorothy (Keyser) and David Cavil in Wrightstown and passed away May 12, 2024. At the age of 2, they moved to Richfield Springs, NY with his parents. The family returned to the De Pere area in 1954 upon his graduation from Van Hornesville (NY) High School. In 1955, Dick enlisted in the US Army and proudly served his country for 3 years with the Army Engineers in the US and France.

He met Rose Mary Hutjens the night he returned home from service. They married June 7, 1960. Together they had five children; Dan Cavil, Laura and Joe Boehm, Dennis and Jane Cavil, Anne and Tom Gerrits and Cindy and Rob Wittl. As each of their children were expecting their first child, Rose Mary designed a six-month crib and Dick built each one by using an “old” wood lathe and turned out each spindle. These cribs are now being used by their great grandchildren.

In addition to his children, he is survived by his grandchildren: Danielle (Zak) Petersen, Samantha (Isaac) Minor, Kyle Cavil, Heidi (Steve) Belekevich, Stephanie (Kyle) Schwetz, Brad (Maureen Welsh) Boehm, Cassaundra (Jon) Swanson, Nicholas (Breanna) Gerrits, Craig (Cailey Nies) Gerrits, Adam Cavil, Jacob Cavil, Taylor Wittl and Sean Wittl; 13 great-grandchildren.

He is further survived by his siblings: Anita (Leo) Kerkhoff, Mary Hockers, June (Steve) Schuchart, Betty (Tom) Rottier, Diane (Leroy) Rukamp, Jerry (Norma) Cavil; Rose Mary’s siblings: Jean Guerts, Betty (Dave) Thaldorf, Stan (Marcia) Hutjens, Roger (Diane) Hutjens, Gordy (Debbie) Hutjens; sisters-in-law Doris Cavil and Mary Hutjens and brother-in-law Bill Wegner.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Rose Mary, brother Randy, Rose Mary’s parents: Raymond and Susan Hutjens; Rose Mary’s siblings: Ken Hutjens, Joanne Wegner, Dottie Melton and Paul Hutjens; brother-in-law Mel Hockers.
