Rev. Richard A. Froehlich

Rev. Richard A. Froehlich, 66, Green Bay, passed away Monday, May 6, 2013. He was born in Green Bay on September 6, 1946, son of the late Erwin B. and Ione (Dahlke) Froehlich. He attended school at Bethany Lutheran School, Hustisford, and was a 1964 graduate of Northwestern Prep High School, Watertown. Pastor Froehlich then attended and graduated from Northwestern College, Watertown, in 1969. Following his graduation from college, he attended Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary, Mequon, graduating with a Divinity degree in the spring of 1972. Pastor Froehlich’s first assignment was at Christ Lutheran Church, Denmark, and Emanuel Lutheran Church, Henrysville, from 1972 to 1981. On Dec 6, 1981, he was commissioned as senior civilian chaplain for WELS members in Europe. Upon his return to the U.S. in the mid 1980s, Pastor Froehlich served at Shining Mountains Lutheran Church, Bozeman, Montana. He came back to northeast Wisconsin and accepted an assignment at Manitowoc Lutheran High School, teaching the German language and coaching baseball. He later accepted a pastorate in Tyler, Texas for 3 years. He returned to the area and became the pastor at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church, Green Bay. Pastor Froehlich’s last assignment was at Emanuel Lutheran Church, Henrysville, retiring in 2006 due to ill health. On October 13, 1979, Pastor Froehlich was married to Nancy Vander Kinter at Christ Lutheran Church, Denmark. He was an avid baseball enthusiast, playing on various teams, as well as coaching. He was a Brewers fan and a Packer fan. He also enjoyed running, playing guitar, listening to music and taking care of his yard. Survivors include three sons: Andrew Froehlich, Manitowoc; Joel (Cathleen) Froehlich, Branch; Christopher Froehlich, Manitowoc; four grandchildren: Collin, Maxwell, Noah, and Matthew; brothers: Mark (Kathryn) Froehlich, Darien, IL, and Paul (Lucy) Froehlich, San Jose, CA; aunts: June Waack and Lori Peaderick, both of Manitowoc; and his special friend, Ellen Post. Relatives and friends of Rev. Richard A. Froehlich may call at Christ Lutheran Church, 503 Grand Ave., Denmark, WI on Wednesday, May 8, 2013 from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. The funeral service will be conducted at the church on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Paul D. Schleis officiating. Interment will follow in Eastside Cemetery, County Rd. P, Fontenoy. Cotter Funeral Home, Denmark, is assisting the Froehlich family. Memorials may be made to Emanuel Lutheran Church-Henrysville or Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary. The family would like to express their thanks to Pastor Schleis for his faithful ministry and the care and concern he provided, and to the caregivers at Bornemann Nursing Home for their compassionate care and kindness.
