Rev. David J. Luhrs

Rev. David J. Luhrs, age 74, passed away on December 10, 2018 following a three-and-a half-year battle with cancer. He was born on January 16, 1944, to Alvin and Ella (Ebert) Luhrs in Hutchinson, Minnesota. David grew up in St. Cloud and Fairmont, Minnesota. He graduated from Fairmont High School in 1962 and from Mankato State University in 1966 with a B.A. in Speech and Spanish. David then attended Concordia Theological Seminary at Springfield, Illinois, graduating in 1970 with a Bachelor of Divinity degree. In 1976 he received a Master of Divinity.

David was ordained at Trinity Lutheran Church at Harvel, Illinois, in 1970. Other parishes served included St. John Lutheran at Hillman, Michigan (1977-82), Peace Lutheran Church at Eau Claire, Wisconsin (1982-1984), and St. Peter Lutheran Church at Forestville, Wisconsin (1984-2013).

On June 28, 1975, he married Janice Jacot at St. Ansgar, Iowa. They are the parents of two sons, Karl and Ryan. David’s hobbies included theology, traveling and astronomy, as well as designing and building structures from Legos.

Survivors include his wife, Janice, children; Karl (Melissa) Luhrs of McFarland, Wisconsin, and Ryan (Sarah) Luhrs of Hickory, North Carolina, grandchildren; David, Samuel and Elena Luhrs, sister-in-law, Carol (Norman) Pahl of St. Ansgar, Iowa, as well as three nieces, one nephew and their families.

The funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 20, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church, 2335 Webster Ave in Green Bay, with visitation for family and friends beginning at 9:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. prior to the service also at the church.
