Phyllis Mulva Martine

March 3, 1923 — March 1, 2010

Phyllis Mulva Martine died peacefully in Dallas, Texas on March 1, 2010. Phyllis was born March 3, 1923 to Mary (Herle) Noe and Roman C Noe in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. She married James J. Mulva on March 6, 1943 and moved to De Pere, Wisconsin, where she continued to reside until 2002, when she moved to Texas to be closer to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Phyllis was devoted to her family and to her Catholic faith. She was active in St. Francis Xavier Parish for many years, volunteering in a variety of roles, including the funeral dinner team and the Altar Rosary Society. She was also a member of Our Lady of Charity Guild. Phyllis worked at the St. Norbert Library for about ten years, often serving as a friendly mother-figure and good listener for a lonely student. She was active in the De Pere Historical Society and was an unfailing supporter of the Green Bay Packers. She enjoyed playing bridge and making a variety of crafts including jeweled Christmas ornaments, counted cross-stitch pieces, and afghans that were not only treasures for her family, but money-makers for charity raffles. Phyllis’s friendly smile and the twinkle in her eyes were infectious. She will be dearly missed by her family and those who cared for her in her final years. Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband of 33 years, James J. Mulva, in December, 1976; her second husband of 25 years, Arlo Martine, in March, 2004; and her sister, Marguerite Hayes in March, 2007. She is survived by three children: Catherine Switzer of Clermont, FL, James (Miriam) Mulva of Houston, TX, and Patrick (Mary) Mulva of Dallas, TX; three grandchildren: Jennifer (Keith) Tower of Windermere, FL, Stephen (Megan) Mulva of Austin, TX, and Jonathan (Gabriela) Mulva of Houston, TX; and three great-grandchildren: Carly Tower, Chloe Tower, and Emily Mulva. Family and friends may call on Sunday, March 7, 2010 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Cotter Funeral Home, 860 N. Webster Ave., De Pere. Visitation will continue on Monday, March 8, 2010 from 9a.m. to 10 a.m. at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 220 S. Michigan St., De Pere. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at the church with the Rev. Patrick O’Dea of Toronto, Canada officiating and the Rev. Joel Sember concelebrating. Burial will be at Mount Calvary Cemetery, De Pere. Online condolences may be expressed to Phyllis’s family at www.cotterfuneralhome.com.
