Pastor Janice Mae Peterson went home to meet her Lord May 29th, 2011, after a long battle with congestive heart failure, at the age of 69. Jan was born in Denmark, WI, January 23, 1942 to Earl and Arline (Larsen) Peterson. She graduated from Denmark High School in 1960 and got a degree in home economics from the University of Wisconsin-Stout. Jan worked for 13 years at Mirro Aluminum in Manitowoc as a Home Economist. She then felt a calling to the Ministry, went back to school, and graduated from St. Paul Seminary in MN in 1981. She interned at Carrington, ND, where she fell in love with ND life. Jan was called to Luverne Lutheran Church and Hofva Lutheran Church where she spent her entire pastoral career. She retired from the Ministry in 2007. She had a great passion for serving the Lord and was a wonderful Pastor to all she knew. After retirement, Jan stayed in ND and moved in with her close friend, Jay Nitschke. Jan enjoyed reading, attending book club, cooking and watching the cooking channel on TV. She also enjoyed gathering with family and friends to play games, as well as attending local drama productions and sports events. She also liked finding new flowers for Jay to plant in their gardens. Jan is survived by 2 brothers and a sister-in-law, Lyle and Janice Peterson of Denmark, WI, Kevin Peterson of Chicago, IL; a sister, Lynn Paider of Mishicot, WI; 4 nieces and a nephew, Tammy and Tony Brunette, Debbie and Jerry Kralovetz, Lori and Doug Prevost, Gary and Carol Paider, and Kathy and Heath Bohman; 12 great nieces and nephews, Meghan, Kevin, Cory, Jacob, Kaitlyn, Travis, Ashley, Leah, Lucas, Joey, Evelyn, and Tristan. She is also survived by Jay Nitschke, a close friend for many years of Jamestown, ND; an uncle, Harris Schlies; 2 aunts, June Larsen and Nancy Larsen; and many cousins and friends. She had a very special place in her heart for all her nieces and nephews as well as her great nieces and great nephews. She was proud to perform many baptisms and weddings for them. Jan was preceded in death by her parents; grandparents, George and Anna Larsen and August and Ella Peterson; and a brother-in-law, Ben Paider.
