Owen Noxon

April 24, 1921 — September 10, 2018

Arthur Owen Noxon, age 97, of Green Bay, passed away on Monday, September 10, 2018. He was born on April 24, 1921 in Missouri Valley, IA to the late Arthur J. and Glenna (Owens) Noxon. Owen attended elementary and secondary schools in Iowa and Nebraska, then attended college at the University of Northern Iowa where he obtained his B.A. in Music Education. He then went on to earn his Master’s Degree in Music Education at the University of Michigan. Owen taught for thirty-seven years in public schools and colleges, spending his last twenty years in Green Bay teaching band and orchestra. During his time teaching, he won many awards for excellence. Owen performed oboe with the Green Bay Symphony, the St. Norbert Community Band and the Gail Shepardson Orchestra. He held the position of Music Adjudicator with the Wisconsin School Music Association.

He served his country in the United States Navy during WWII in the South Atlantic and Brazil on an anti-submarine sea plane base for 4 years. Owen enjoyed several outdoor pastimes including downhill skiing, boating, hiking in Colorado and traveling. He enjoyed time spent with family and friends, playing board games and cards, going to Friday night fish frys, watching the Packers and UWGB Girls Basketball games. Owen and Dee spent the summers of the past 41 years in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado at their mountain cabin, which they built themselves.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Delores, children: Cynthia (Tony) Catanese, Denver, CO, Dr. James (Marcia) Noxon, Ames, IA, Robert Noxon, Colorado Springs, CO and Mark (Jamie) Noxon, Madison, WI, grandchildren: Tim (Kimbra) Noxon, Jennifer (Joel) Stucky, Kimberly Noxon and Amy Noxon and great grandchildren; Clara, James and William. Owen is further survived by a nephew, Ronald (Ashlynn) Lough.

Preceding Owen in death are his parents as well as his sister and brother in law, Miriam and Harry Bartlett.

A gathering of family and friends will begin at 10:00 am, Thursday, September 20, 2018 at Cotter Funeral Home, 860 N. Webster Ave, De Pere, WI, until the memorial service at 12:00 pm at the funeral home, military honors will follow. Online condolences can be submitted at www.cotterfuneralhome.com . In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
