Omar Harrison Kuschel

May 18, 1928 — September 10, 2015

Omar Harrison Kuschel, 87, of De Pere, died peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, September 10, 2015. He was born May 18, 1928 in Appleton as the first born son of Harvey and Estelle Kuschel. He graduated from Appleton West High School, going on to serve his country in the United States Army. Omar attended Wartburg College and soon after met his sweetheart Jeanne Lou Craig. They were married June 9, 1951 and together had 5 children. Omar worked for Peoples Marine Bank/Bank One for 40 years. During this time, he served his customers with compassion and care. He also served his community through his work, as a board member, with the Family Services of Northeast Wisconsin. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Green Bay for over 60 years, serving on the Church Council in several capacities and dedicating 34 years to the youth ministry. Omar enjoyed singing and being a member of the church’s Men’s Choir. Omar was a loving family man and role model to many. He was a selfless and charitable person. The legacy he has left is one of love and joy, kindness and forgiveness, patience and gentleness. This legacy will live on forever. His friendly smile and cheerful whistling will always be cherished by those who knew and loved him. He was preceded in death by his wife Jeanne and his daughter Barbara Mortensen. Omar will be missed by everyone whose life he touched, especially his family. He is survived by his children: Amy(Karl) Steinbrinck, Mary(Keith) Taylor, Kathy(Mehdi) Arradizadeh, Andy(Mary Kay) Kuschel and son-in-law Al Mortensen. He will also be sadly missed by his 13 grandchildren: Kasey(Ashley), Justin(Jamie), Erin(Mike), Alanna(Rodney), Andre, Hannah, Shane, Kayna, Avery, Allie, Mara, Braiden, Toni, 6 great-grandchildren, his brother Alden (Carla) Kuschel, and his nieces and nephew. Family and friends may visit Grace Lutheran Church, 321 S. Madison St., Green Bay on Tuesday, September 15, 2015 from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of Memorial Service at 11:00 a.m., with the Rev. Julie Wrubbel-Lange officiating. Inurnment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Appleton. Cotter Funeral Home and Cremation Service is assisting the family. We would also like to thank Ada for her special care and friendship along with the many other friends that provided help and support.
