Norbert "Norb" Neumeyer

Norbert H. “Norb” Neumeyer, 86, De Pere, passed away on Thursday, October 9, 2014. He was born in Manitowoc County on November 26, 1927 to the late Edward and Alvina (Stahl) Neumeyer, Sr. He was a 1945 graduate of Valders High School. After graduation he served his country in the United States Navy during World War II. Norb married the love of his life, Elaine Maney, on June 10, 1950 at St. Mary Church, Clarks Mills. Norb loved serving his community especially with the De Pere Lions Club where he held perfect attendance for 43 years. He held many positions with the local chapter as well as the state Lions Club. Many of his accomplishments were 2 terms as Club President, Lion of the Year, chartered 3 new district clubs, received the Melvin Jones Fellow Camp Award and received the International Outstanding Governor Award. He was a long time member of St. Francis Xavier Church in De Pere. He loved the game of golf, playing countless rounds at Mystery Hills (now Ledgeview) Golf Club. For many years he was a dedicated coach and announcer for the youth sports of the area. He especially loved attending and cheering sporting and school events, also dance and music recitals, of his children and grandchildren. Norb is survived by his wife of 64 years, Elaine; children, Debra Prokop, her children, Joseph (Erin) and Kayya (Russell); Barbara (Tom) Kiefer, their children Andrew (Emily), Lisa (David) and Mike; Michael Neumeyer; Threse (Brent) Martin, their children, Spencer and Miranda; James Neumeyer, his children Jason and Bailey; Susan (Matt) Vannieuwenhoven, their children Michael and Emma; 4 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters, Delores Knox; Bernadine (Wayne) Breckheimer; sisters-in-law, Ann, Agnes, Bonnie, Marilyn; Elaine’s sisters and brother, Marlene (Richard) Oman, Nancy (Dennis) Bonk; Thomas (Eileen) Maney; many other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his sons, Dennis and David; son-in-law, Frank Prokop; brothers, Clarence (Virginia); Jerome (Virginia); William; Edward; Alphonse; Robert; brother-in-law, John (Alice) Maney. Family and friends may visit at Cotter Funeral Home, 860 N. Webster Ave., De Pere, on Sunday, October 12, 2014 from 4-7PM. A prayer service will be at 6:30PM. Visitation will continue on Monday, October 13, 2014 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 220 S. Michigan St., De Pere, from 9:30AM to 10:45AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Norb at 11AM at the church with Rev. Richard Getchel officiating. Full Military rites will follow mass. Entombment at Shrine of the Good Shepherd Mausoleum. Online condolences may be expressed to www.cotterfuneralhome.com. Because of Norb’s dedication and commitment to the Lions Club, a memorial fund is being established in Norb’s name to the Lions Club.
