Norbert "Gabby" Manders

February 22, 1926 — November 23, 2016

Norbert G. “Gabby” Manders, 90, of Allouez passed away on November 23, 2016 at Angels Touch Assisted Living. The youngest of eleven children, he was born on February 22, 1926 to the late Frank and Kate (Bressers) Manders. On June 7, 1947 he married Bette Calaway of De Pere. They celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary in June. Gabby attended St. Mathew Grade School and graduated from De Pere High School in 1943. Gabby worked on his family’s farm, tended bar, delivered mail and managed the Kegler’s Klub Bowling Lanes from 1953 until retirement. Gabby enjoyed bowling and golf. He was very proud of his 3 holes in one especially the one he had while playing with his two grandsons. He had been a member of Fox Valley Golf Club and Shorewood Country Club. He enjoyed all kinds of card games especially bridge, cribbage and euchre. He loved doing yard work and doing all kinds of work around the house. After retirement he enjoyed spending many winters in Florida with his wife, Bette, and other dear friends. Gabby was a charter member of Resurrection Catholic Church in Allouez and a member of the Knights of Columbus for over 50 years. Survivors include his wife Bette of Allouez; son Daniel (Kathleen) of Hayward WI; three grandchildren and four great grandchildren: Michelle (Phillip) Violi of Madison WI and their daughter Iris; Michael (Sarah) Manders of Ankeny Iowa and their son Aiden; John (Lisa) Manders of Savage MN and their children Molly and Evan; sister in laws Agnes Manders Simons, Joan Mott, Eunice Manders, Lorriane Calaway and Joan Hogan; brother in laws Dave (Mary) Calaway, Dick Calaway and Jack (Alyce) Kellerman and many nieces, nephews and friends. Gabby was preceded in death by his parents Frank and Kate; Bette’s parents John and Elizabeth (Hurkman) Calaway; his siblings Martin, Ted, Tony, Smokey, Frank, Lucille Nuss, Marie Snow, Cora Selissen Taucher, Adele Stein, and Dorothy Mott; his brother in laws Jack Calaway Jr., Dick Hogan; his sister in law Sally Kellerman. Family and friends may visit at Resurrection Catholic Church, 333 Hilltop Dr., Green Bay on Saturday, November 26, 2016 from 9:00 to 10:15am. Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated for Gabby at 10:30am with Bishop Robert Morneau officiating. Entombment in Allouez Chapel Mausoleum.
