Nicholas J. Metz

Nicholas J. Metz, 66, of Cooperstown died unexpectedly Monday, January, 14, 2019 at his residence. Nic was born on October 15, 1952 the son of Francis J. Sr and Susan (Stahl) Metz.
At the age of 17, Nic was drafted by the Minnesota Twins in the 27th round of the 1970 MLB June Amateur Draft from Denmark high school. He was then a part of the 1971 draft into the US Army serving from 1971 to 1974.
In his spare time he enjoyed playing fast pitch softball, Olympic weight lifting, golfing with his friends and most importantly spending time with his family.
Survivors include his daughters, Mindy (Mike) Johnson and Jody (Jason) Gantz; his mother, nine siblings and spouses, Mary (John) Vanne; Chris (Wendy) Metz; Betty (Bruce) Ackerman; David Metz; Chuck (Jean) Metz; Tom (Carol) Metz; Jim (Jesse) Metz; Francis Jr. (special friend, Rhonda); Paul (Brenda) Metz; his four grandchildren, Averie and Rheis Johnson, and Baily and Bryce Gantz.
He was preceded in death by his father, Francis Joseph Metz Sr.; his grandparents, Joseph and Cora (Koene) Metz; and Nicholas and Lola (Cheney) Stahl.
Family and friends may visit at Cotter Funeral Home-Denmark Chapel, 536 County Rd R, Denmark, on Monday, January 21, from 3:00pm until 7:00pm. A parish prayer service will be at 7:00pm.
