Nancy Schlies

August 27, 1966 — September 11, 2023

Nancy Schlies, born August 27, 1966, peacefully passed away surrounded by her children and husband. The daughter of Robert and Janet Charles attended Green Bay East High School, graduating in 1985. While in high school, she was active in the FFA chapter, which led to her finding the love of her life, Lester Schlies, while attending the 1983 Washington Leadership Conference in Washington, D.C. On September 12, 1987, Lester and Nancy were married at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral in Green Bay, WI. She worked part-time at Royal Cleaners while helping Lester on the family farm. In 1997, she started part-time with the U.S. Postal Service and became full-time in 2000. Nancy adored all of her customers, and she wanted to make sure they all felt special, often adding some baked treats or a note of gratitude in their mailbox. She would always go the extra mile to better serve her customers, just as a faithful servant would do. During her time at the USPS, she was actively involved with the Wisconsin Rural Letter Carriers Association. Eventually, Nancy retired as ALS and frontotemporal dementia progressed.

Nancy was a strong believer in supporting agriculture’s youth. She was a Lifetime Member of the Denmark FFA Alumni, helping with many local fundraisers and state and national FFA Alumni Conventions, and was the loadout chairperson for the Northeast Youth Livestock Show since 2004 when her and Lester began running the show.

If there was one place Nancy enjoyed being the most, it was at her home where she was able to garden, plant flowers, can, bake and sew (especially pillow quilts); all of which she was well known for! Nancy could be found at most family gatherings making homemade rolls and in the kitchen preparing the rest of the food. Each year, her children could choose the theme of a birthday cake which she would then bake and decorate for them. Sunday mornings though, were reserved for trips to Uncle Mike’s. Nancy would welcome everyone into her home with kind words and hugs.

Nancy was a member of St. Therese Parish and had an abiding faith which she shared with her family and friends.

She is survived by her husband of nearly 36 years, Lester; two daughters and sons-in law, two sons and daughter-in law: Jennifer (Kenneth Jr.) Strack of Random Lake, Tyler (Lexi) Schlies of Denmark, Tammy (Damon) Vandenack of Denmark, Joe Schlies of Denmark; mother: Jan Charles of Green Bay; three brothers and sisters-in law: Mark Charles, Todd (Tina) Charles, Janice Pedler, David (Robyn) Charles, and many other nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She is preceded in death by her father, Robert Charles; brother, Scott Charles, and many other uncles, aunts, and cousins.

Family and friends may visit at Cotter Funeral Home-Denmark (536 County Road R), on Thursday, September 14, from 3-7pm. A parish prayer service will conclude the evening.
