Minnie Van Lanen

March 4, 1915 — March 8, 2013

Minnie Van Lanen, 98, of De Pere, passed away after a short illness. She was born March 4, 1915 in Kimberly to the late William and Anna (Van Summeren) Vanden Hoogen. She married Elmer on June 8, 1937 at St. Mary Church in De Pere, and together they farmed in Rockland for 21 years. In retirement, she worked for Lindeman’s Cleaners and many years at Dickinson School in De Pere. She was an excellent seamstress who also enjoyed embroidery, cross-stitching and sewed many scarves for cancer patients. Her family looked forward to homemade Christmas candy, especially the best Sea Foam. She was a member of the Refund and Quilters groups at St. Mary and always enjoyed a good game of sheepshead. She is survived by her children: Marianne (Don) Gibbons, Carol (Bill) Felber and Arleen (Bob) Grignon, all of Bellevue; daughter-in-law, Sharon Van Lanen of Green Bay, 14 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren, sisters-in-law: Mary Ann Vanden Hoogen of De Pere, and Peggy Vanden Hoogen of Green Bay; brother-in-law, Rufus Aschenbrenner of De Pere, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer in 1996; a son, Jim in 2008; sisters: Cora (Frank) Kobes and Frank’s second wife Toni Kobes, Susan (Raymond) Hutjens, Harriet (Neil Kocken) and Harriet’s second husband Gerald Komorosky, Frances (Roland Hendricks) and her second husband Lorten Penn, and Mildred Aschenbrenner; brothers: Richard (Janet) Vanden Hoogen, Clement Vanden Hoogen, Clarence Vanden Hoogen, William (Del) Vanden Hoogen, Joseph Vanden Hoogen and Harry Vanden Hoogen; mother and father-in-law: Peter (Mary) Van Lanen; brothers and sisters-in-law: Alfred (Nellie) Van Lanen, Norman (Esther) Van Lanen, Loretta (Clarence) Tesch, Arthur (Mildred) Van Lanen. Family and friends may visit at St. Mary Catholic Church, 4805 Sportsman Dr., Ledgeview, from 9:30am until the hour of Mass on Tuesday, March 12. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30am with the Rev. Richard Getchel officiating. Interment in Mt Olivet Cemetery, De Pere. Cotter Funeral Home is assisting the family.
