Mildred "Millie" Walsh

May 9, 1931 — May 23, 2021

Mildred “Millie” Walsh, age 90, of De Pere, passed away Sunday, May 23, 2021. The daughter of the late Martin and Frances (Lasee) Hendricks was born May 9, 1931 in De Pere. On May 14, 1948 she married Jack Walsh, and he preceded her in death on November 18, 2019.
Beloved by all, Millie possessed an inquisitiveness that charmed folks from all walks of life. A mother of five, grandmother of seven and great-grandmother of 12, she passed her love and kindness on to three generations.
Millie worked in the office of Dr. Plous and later at De Pere High School in the kitchen. An active member of St. Francis Xavier Parish of De Pere, she was active in the Altar Rosary Society, particularly helping with funeral luncheons. Other parish involvements included the Home School Association of St. Francis School and helping with the church picnic.
Millie’s baking was legendary, prompting her grandchildren to exclaim: “no one makes cookies like Grandma Walsh!” She could fall asleep as quickly as she could close her eyes, and her attempts at telling jokes were often funnier than any punchline. She also enjoyed puzzles, crocheting, gardening and polkas.
There were no fans greater than Jack and Millie. In activities that ran the gamut- baseball, volleyball, tennis, basketball, soccer, plays, recitals and more- children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren alike could take comfort in knowing the two were in attendance cheering them on.
As they got older, the couple formed their own neighborhood watch. From the comfort of their own living room they set up shop, ensuring their street was the safest and most surveilled in all the land.
Surviving Millie are: son Mike (Sue) Walsh of De Pere; 3 daughters: Linda (Rick) Loftus of Virginia, Nancy (Jerry) Coppus of Freedom and Ann (Eric) Goska of Green Bay; grandchildren: Tina Gossen (special friend James Maki), Chad (Lauren) Walsh, Kristy (Nate) Painter, Brenden (Crystal) Loftus, Kyle Loftus, Nicole Goska (special friend Colin) and Rebecca Goska; Great-grandchildren: Alexis and Hailey Gossen, Jackson, Andrew and Kathryn Painter, Conor and Amelia Loftus, Kaitlyn, Destiny and Kyle Jr. Loftus, Leighton and Tatum Walsh. Also survived by her sister: Dolores Vernosh; sisters-in-law: Pat Leptich, Jerrie Walsh and Pat Walsh; numerous nieces, nephews and other family.
She was preceded in death by her husband Jack; son Steve; brother and sisters: Bernice Hendricks, Jim (Carol) Hendricks, Marian (Jerome) Kacmarynski; in-laws: Darrel Vernosh, Bud Walsh, Earl Walsh and Joe Leptich.
