Michael Brunner

Allouez - Michael G. Brunner, 83, of Allouez, Wisconsin, passed away at his home Friday afternoon, May 28, 2021, with the wife who dearly loved him by his side.

Mike was born May 12, 1938, at home on North 6th Street in Mankato, Minnesota, the youngest of three boys to parents Edgar Thomas and Anne Margaret (Tiell) Brunner. He was baptized June 19, 1938, at Saints Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Mankato. After graduating from Mankato High School in 1956, he enlisted in the Army National Guard. Upon returning home he began a long career in pharmaceuticals and medical supplies, which started in the Mankato warehouse with Spence McCord Drug Company (later Whittaker General Medical). On November 14, 1961, he married Carol J. Cutkosky, also from Mankato, in Minnesota Lake, Minnesota. They were parents of two sons: Scott and Brett. In 1963 Mike moved with his wife and young son, Scott, to Madison, Wisconsin, where he had been chosen, with William Dacey, to open a new warehouse. Here they had their first home built, adopted their first dog, and welcomed their second son, Brett. In 1970 the family moved to Green Bay, Wisconsin, following another transfer. Mike worked his way up in the company from purchasing, sales representative, sales manager, to general manager. He also worked in sales and management for Medix, Inc. He retired from the medical supply field after 37 years. In December 1995 he changed careers and became the owner and operator of George Street Paint & Decorating in De Pere, Wisconsin. After ten years in business, he retired in December 2005.

In years past, Mike could always be found near the water - on Minnesota's lakes or on Green Bay, in his boat pulling skiers or behind the boat skiing. But his favorite water activity was fishing. And how he loved to fish! He was also a great cook, and well known among friends for his famous turkey and dressing (his mother's recipe). The family enjoyed camping and Mike pitched a tent at numerous spots around the country. The house always had various pets - often Mike's selections from an animal shelter. In later years he could be found with a book in hand.

Mike is survived by his wife Carol of 59 years; son Scott and granddaughter Natalie, of De Pere, Wisconsin; his brother Pat (Joan) of Mankato, Minnesota; sister-in-law Vel Brunner of North Mankato, Minnesota; nephew Mark Brunner, nieces Cindy (Jerry) Kolander and Lisa (Scott) Fitterer; and nephew Steven Pommerenke. He also leaves behind his 9-year-old pet rabbit Moonlight. He was preceded in death by his son Brett in 1989; his parents; his brother Tom Brunner; in-laws Harry and Stella Cutkosky; sisters-in-law Marlene Pommerenke and Phyllis Brunner; and niece Pamela Pommerenke.

The Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 8, 2021, at Ascension Lutheran Church, 2911 Libal Street in Allouez with the Reverends Luther & Lori Swenson officiating. Visitation will start at 9:30 a.m. Final resting place will be at Nicolet Memorial Gardens in Green Bay, Wisconsin. A special thank you to Pastor Lori for the faith-filled comfort she gave to Mike during his illness.
