Mattie (Melott) Douglas

Mattie Douglas, 81, Pulaski, WI, formerly of Tuscola, TX, died peacefully with her two daughters by her side, Thursday, April 22, 2010 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Green Bay. The daughter of the late Elonzo and Mamie Melott, Mattie was born May 5, 1928 in Big Foot, TX. She worked most of her life caring for elderly patients at Care Inn Nursing Home in Abilene, TX. The families appreciated the care she gave and the compassion she showed to their loved ones. She was greatly missed when she decided to retire at the age of 72. Mattie married Levi Douglas on July 21, 1948 and had two daughters, Sandra Lee and Judith Ann. After almost fifty years of marriage she lost her husband, Levi, in 1998. Mattie spent the last five years of her life in Pulaski, WI, surrounded by family. She particularly enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is survived by her two daughters, Sandra Swaab, Hobart, WI, and Judith Sparks, Pulaski, WI; eight grandchildren: Christian Swaab, Ryan Swaab, Erin (Adam) Nordell, Michael (Dana) Swaab, Keely Swaab, Elisa (Scott) Gozdzialski, Sarah (Jonathan) Cullingford, and Charly Sparks; five great-grandchildren: Autumn, Sabrina, Bruce, Lillian, and Savhana. Mattie was preceded in death by her parents; several siblings; her husband, Levi; and her son-in-law, Tom Swaab. Family and friends may call Monday, April 26, 2010 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Cotter Funeral Home, 860 N. Webster Ave., De Pere, where there will be a Prayer Service at 6:30 p.m. Burial will be in Tuscola Cemetery, Tuscola, Texas on Thursday April 29, 2010.
