Mathew John Schweiner

Mathew John Schweiner, age 92, of Denmark, passed away Thursday, December 1, 2022 at his home. The son of the late  Matt and Anna (Kozlik) Schweiner was born October 6, 1930. He attended Kewaunee High School and served his country in the U.S. Air Force. On June 18, 1958, he married Marie DuBois at St. Martin Catholic Church in Tonet, WI. He was a loving and devoted husband for 64 years. Matt was an insurance underwriter for New York Life. He was a member of All Saints Catholic Church, where he sang in the choir. He was a member of the Barbershop Harmony Choir and of the Knights of Columbus.

He loved his children and grandchildren, instilling confidence in each with a simple, “of course you can do it.” He enjoyed baseball and coaching Little League, watching Packer games, fishing and hunting and spending time at “The Farm.” Matt had a passion for woodworking. Later in life, he found new hobbies tapping maple trees to make syrup, beekeeping and bird watching. He was always ready for a game of Sheepshead with either lifelong friends or family.

Survivors include his wife, Marie (DuBois) Schweiner; daughter Joan (Stan) Tracey and their children: Elisabeth, Laura, Tim (Zoe), Greg and Joe; son Stephen (Claudia) Schweiner and their children: Max (Julia), Abby and Amy; daughter Kathleen (Isaac) Johnson and their children: Nathan and Elaina; son John (Tracey) Schweiner and their children: Sydney, Charlie, Maicie and Pyper; son Carl Schweiner and his children: Reis and Aubry; son-in-law Tim Malay and his son Sean; daughter Julie (Robert) Heim and their children: Breanna (Alex) Giese and their daughter, Oaklyn, great granddaughter, Eric and Mathew; son Michael (Anne) Schweiner and their children Ben, Cam and Katelyn; sisters: Marcella Dellemann and LaVerne Sisel; brothers-in-law: Jim (Nancy) DuBois and Richard DuBois.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter Sara Malay; granddaughter Emily Heim; brothers: Gerald (LaVerne)Schweiner and Norbert Schweiner; brothers-in-law: Dana Sisel and Edgar Dellemann; sisters-in-law: Linda DuBois, Carol (Dan) Ratajczak and Ann DuBois.

Family and friends may visit at Cotter Funeral Home -Denmark (536 County Road R) on Tuesday, December 6, from 4-6pm. A parish prayer service will conclude the evening. Visitation will continue on Wednesday at All Saints Catholic Church, (145 St. Claude Street- Denmark) from 9:30am until 10:45am. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am with Fr. Xavier Amirtham, O.Praem officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
