Mary (Reinhart) Schall

August 24, 1943 — August 7, 2021

Mary Louise (Reinhart) Schall, 77, passed away August 7, 2021 after a brief illness. She was born to Norbert ‘Vern’ and Bernice (Fleck) Reinhart on August 24, 1943. She spent her early childhood in De Pere and Manitowoc. After her father died, her mother moved the family to Green Bay. Mary graduated from St. Mary of the Angels grade school, St. Joseph Academy, attended Marquette University, graduated from St. Norbert College, and received her Masters of Art Education from Temple University, Philadelphia. She taught in New York, Ashwaubenon, Michigan, California, and Texas before moving back to De Pere to raise her son, Jacob. She taught art at every level in the De Pere School District for 27 years.
Mary was a woman of many talents and interests. She was a painter and a potter and produced beautiful creations in all of the fiber arts, but her true passion was knitting. She could be seen with knitting needles flying everywhere she went, except at church and in the pool at the Y. She made sweaters, vests, jackets, socks, hats and scarves for herself and everyone she loved, and even strangers. She travelled all over North America, to Europe, the Mideast, Africa, and South America. She had a natural curiosity and interest in all of the cultures she visited. She spent a year as an exchange teacher in Bath, England with the Fulbright program. In recent years she enjoyed reading and became an avid fan of Netflix.  She even won a medal at the Badger State Games for rowing.
Mary was involved in the community, donating time at St. John’s Homeless Shelter and also GBCI. She was a founding member and past president of the Brown County Community Women’s Club (BCCWC). She was Secretary of the De Pere Historical Society, served on the Parish council of Old St. Joseph Church at St. Norbert, served on the committee that planned the renovation of the church, and was a Eucharistic Minister. As an active member of the De Pere Education Association, she planned the annual retirement dinners for many years.
Mary had a zest for life and a way of welcoming everyone into her life. She will be sadly missed by her son, Jacob (Chantal) Schall, grandsons Max and James Schall, sister Elsa Reinhart, brothers Mark (Mary) Reinhart, and Tom Reinhart, nephews, Max, Sam  and Ben Reinhart, nieces Anna Reinhart and Lizzie Harp, and great nieces and nephews. She is further survived by many cousins and dear friends too many to count.
She was preceded in death by her father and mother; sister-in-law, Meridith Reinhart; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Family and friends may visit at St. Norbert College Parish at Old St. Joseph Church, on the campus of St. Norbert College, on Friday, August 13, from 9:00am until 10:45am. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am with Fr. Mike Brennan, O.Praem officiating. Cotter Funeral and Cremation Care is assisting the family.
Our family would like to extend a thank you to the doctors and nurses of Aurora BayCare Medical Center’s 3rd floor ICU.
