Mary P. (Petry) Seiler

Mary P. Seiler, 86, longtime Green Bay resident, died peacefully on June 11, 2011, with her family beside her. Mary was born on August 2, 1924, in Danville, IL, daughter to the late Louis and Esther (Allen) Petry, and lived in Hoopeston, IL, until attending college at De Pauw University in Greencastle, IN, and Northwestern University in Evanston, IL. She married Galen Seiler in 1945 and raised four children while living in Green Bay. She was active in the community, especially music related activities. She graduated from St. Norbert College in 1966 with a degree in music education. She was a music teacher at Valley View Elementary School for 23 years, retiring in 1990. She was a charter member of the St. Norbert Collegiate Chorale (Dudley Birder Chorale) participating in many concerts, including performances at Carnegie Hall. Mary loved to travel, listing favorite sites visited as Israel, Vienna, Rome, the British Isles, and various cities in Turkey. Mary also enjoyed the opera, reading, and crossword puzzles. For many years Mary was an active member at First United Presbyterian Church in De Pere. She served as an adult bible studies teacher, choir director and deacon. Her Christian faith was a bedrock for how she lived and interacted with people. She is survived by a daughter, Suzanne Jones of Madison, WI; and two sons, Louis and Joseph (Jane) Seiler of Green Bay, WI. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Elizabeth Seiler and a son, James Allen Seiler. She is also survived by grandchildren, Melissa (Brian) Kolstad, Jennifer (Michael) Zutter, Sam (Sarah) Seiler, Renata Seiler, Andy Gilbert, Sarah, Katherine and Alyanna Seiler. She was blessed to have great grandchildren: Natalie and Mia Zutter, Brandon Seiler, Josie Seiler, Andy Jr. and Jon Gilbert; many wonderful cousins, nieces, and nephews; and special friends of the family, Lynda and Don Denny. Family and friends may call at Living Hope Church, 1840 W. Mason Street, Green Bay, on Thursday, June 30, 2011, beginning at 9:00 a.m. followed by a Memorial Service which be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Dr. Ted L. Tromble will officiate.
