Mary Fawcett

Mary Fawcett, 88, of Green Bay passed away peacefully Tuesday March 1, 2022.

Mary was born November 2, 1933, in Packwood, Iowa to the late Charles and Marie (Mills) Nelson. She attended college after high school, and one summer went to work at Yellowstone Park. There she met the love of her life, Keith. She called it after their third date that he was the one for her. He proposed the end of that summer. They married June 16th, 1956. In 2021 they celebrated 65 years together. Mary was game to follow him to different cities and spend summers at Gardner Dam Boy Scout camp with two young boys. They shared a love, that was just like those written about in books and movies.

In 1969 they settled in Green Bay where Mary worked as a head start teacher and then helped Keith with his dream of opening a Frame and Gift shop (Gallery K in De Pere).
There she enjoyed talking to people about home decorating ideas and could stock all the items that would not fit in the house, saying Keith gave her another place to decorate. After they both decided to close the store and retire, they enjoyed traveling together. She wanted to work again with children, so she volunteered many years as a child advocate for CASA. The walls of home were filled with many cross-stitch projects she had completed, adding to the already warm environment. Knitting was her other passion, and she made many items for those she loved. She was part of a weekly knitting group up until the last couple of years. We often thought they all enjoyed the conversations more than the actual knitting.

Mary always was one to open her home to others and enjoyed entertaining. It was not uncommon to have an extra guest at the dinner table or join on a family vacation. No one was ever turned away and her children and their friends have fond memories of time spent on Derby Lane. The House on the Hill built later in life became a place of peace and comfort as well. Simple events were made more elegant with a picnic basket, French bread and cheese spread. Monthly dinner parties always found the table full of delicious dishes. Even if something didn't quite turn out right, she would brush it off with a laugh, like the year she forgot to turn the oven on at Thanksgiving. She ultimately called friends who were coming over for drinks and asked them to bring Turkey to go with sides that were already cooked. Mary always found creative ways to make life fun and her attitude was contagious. That is how we want you to remember her.

Mary was preceded in Death by her parents, her In-Laws Raymond and Luora Fawcett, and infant daughter Mary Jane.

Survived by her husband Keith, Children Scott, Todd, Meghan (Joe) Marks, Grandchildren Brittany (Jared) Hanson and Jacob. Great-Grandchildren Levi and Lyla

Our family would like to thank Bellevue Retirement Center for being able to keep Mary and Keith together up until the last week of life. Also thank you to Unity Hospice for the compassionate care and keeping her comfortable until her passing.

A Celebration of Life Picnic will be held later this year. Cotter Funeral Home and Cremation Care is assisting the family.
