Mary Catharine Hartman Wagner Shaw

Mary Catharine Hartman Wagner Shaw, 88, passed away on Saturday, May 7, 2016 following a short illness. Born on October 8, 1927 to George Edwin and Catharine VanNetta Hartman in Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, Mary lived her childhood and adult years in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, later moving to Winter Haven, Florida in 1985 until her move to DePere, Wisconsin in 2008. She was a graduate of South Williamsport High School and attended Lycoming College. Mary was a member of the Williamsport Junior League, St. Mark’s Lutheran Church - Williamsport, Winter Haven Chamber of Commerce, and Grace Lutheran Church – Winter Haven. She was a Girl Scout leader and taught swimming lessons at the Y.W.C.A. in Williamsport for many years, later working at Bethlehem Steel Corporation as a receptionist and secretary where she met her second husband, Dick Shaw. Mary and Dick enjoyed life to the fullest whether it was boating on the Susquehanna River, riding their BMW motorcycles throughout Pennsylvania and New York State, or traveling around the country in their motorhome. Mary’s love of shopping and creating beautiful things never ended, whether it was needlepoint, cross stitch, weaving or knitting. Mary kept many friendships from childhood throughout her life and continued to make new friends wherever she was. Mary is survived by her daughter, Lynn Wagner VandeWalle (Bob); granddaughters, Melissa Hurst (Jeremiah) and Holly VandeWalle-Gore (Dave); 8 great grandchildren - Bretton, Adriana, Lucy and Barrett Hurst, Jonathan Craigie VandeWalle, Benjamin, Annilyn and Harriet Gore. She is also survived by daughter-in-law, Patricia Wagner; Dick’s daughters, Carol Shaw Durrwachter (Dave) and Sandy Shaw Traylor and family; 4 nieces and one nephew. Mary was preceded in death by her son, T. Craigie Wagner II; husband, Richard Price Shaw; sisters, Carolyn Hartman Colteryahn and Dorothy Hartman Shade; nephew, Barry Colteryahn; step-granddaughter, Charlene Mullins and Thomas C. Wagner, the father of her children. A private celebration of Mary’s life will be held at a future date. A special thank you to Mary’s caregivers at Rennes Health Center who had a place in their hearts for her happiness and care over the years.
