Mary Ann Smith

Mary Ann Smith, 98, Allouez, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, August 23, 2011 at her home. She was born January 6, 1913 in Green Bay, daughter of the late Robert J. and Lillian A. (Stordeur) Brunette. Following graduation from high school, she attended college in Washington, DC. to become an art teacher. Mary Ann married Gregg C. Smith and together owned the Gregg Smith Furniture Store on Washington Street in Green Bay. Mary Ann was co-founder of the Allouez Beautification Committee, and a member of the Green Bay-De Pere Antiquarian Society and the Abbey Bell Garden Club. She was a professional interior designer and enjoyed gardening, cooking and painting. She is survived by her significant other, Eugene Powers; and a sister, Margaret Posey, who recently turned 100 years of age. She is treasured by all her nieces and nephews, as well as her great nieces and great nephews and all other relations. They will always have a special place in their hearts with the memories of the times they had together. Preceding her in death are her parents; her husband, Gregg; two sisters: Genevieve Everson and Barbara Olson; and three brothers: Cletus, Kenneth, and Robert Peter Brunette. Family and friends of Mary Ann Smith may call Thursday, August 25, 2011, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Cotter Funeral Home, 860 N. Webster Ave., De Pere, where there will be a Parish Prayer Service at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will continue on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until the hour of Mass at Resurrection Catholic Church, 333 Hilltop Drive, Allouez. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. Friday at church, with Fr. Gery Meehan O.Praem officiating. Interment will follow in the Cemetery of the Holy Sepulchre.
