Mary A. Metzler, 72, Green Bay, passed away at Unity’s Jack and Engrid Meng Residence surrounded by her family on May 31, 2014 following a brief illness. The daughter of Anthony Geurts, Mary was born in Green Bay on March 7, 1942. She is survived by her loving husband, Hub Metzler, whom she married on September 14, 1963 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in De Pere. In addition to being a homemaker, Mary worked at Prange Way for many years, the Green Bay City Parking Utility, and most recently at Aurora BayCare Medical Center. From each job, Mary took with her many dear friends. Always caring and compassionate, prior to the onset of her illness, Mary delivered Meals on Wheels to homebound individuals. Mary enjoyed cooking, baking, reading and crossword puzzles, but more than anything, she loved to spend time with her grandchildren, never missing their sporting events. Mary will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her, especially her husband Hub, and their children Mike (Jan) Metzler, Mark (Mary) Metzler, Carri (Doug) Prigge, Steve (Kate) Metzler, Patrick (Tracy) Metzler, and Kristin (Andy) Roskom; and grandchildren, Michael and Eric Metzler, Megan and Madison Metzler, Lauren and Luke Prigge, Claire and Anthony Metzler, and Hunter and Paige Roskom. Mary is also survived by her brother Richard Geurts (special friend Barb), sisters- and brothers-in-law Millie (Jack) Phillips, Pat Metzler, Elaine (Elroy) Kaster, Jim (special friend Pat) Metzler, and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her father Anthony, Mary was preceded in death by her father- and mother-in-law Ed and Mabel Metzler and her brother-in-law Fran Metzler. Mary's family extends their sincere appreciation to Dr. David Kaufman, Dr. Malgorzata Franczak, and Unity Hospice, especially the Meng Residence staff and the nurses who cared for her at home, for the care and compassion shown to Mary and her family. They also appreciate the many dear friends and family who came to provide comfort and support during her recent illness. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
