Martin Van Schyndel

August 24, 1915 — March 4, 2012

Martin Van Schyndel, 96, Wrightstown, passed away Sunday, March 4, 2012, at St. Mary’s Hospital, with loving his loving family at his side. He was born August 24, 1915 in Minnesota, son of the late George and Anna (Van Lamone) Van Schyndel. He married Evelyn De Bruin on March 30, 1937 in Oneida, WI. Martin farmed his entire life in the Kaukauna-Wrightstown area. His 96 years saw many changes in farming from his horses used in the fields to the large machinery out there today. Martin loved his cows and was one of the first to have a milking parlor in the area built sometime in the 1950’s. Martin liked red tractors and farmed with many new models over the years, including the 1st four wheel drive in the area, a 1970 Model 4166 International. He also hauled milk for many years earlier in his life. Martin rode a lot of Yamaha and Arctic Cat Snowmobiles over the years and was one of the Charter members of the Wrightstown Snowmobile Club. Martin was active riding into his early 80’s especially in Northern Wisconsin and upper Michigan. Martin and Evelyn attended many tractor pulls along with the Oudenhoven family and like the good competition and “B-S” with friends. Martin’s charm and wit will be missed by his friends and relatives. Martin served many years on the Town of Kaukauna board of Directors and other committees. He also liked watching the Packer and Brewer games, and going out for Friday night fish. He will be deeply missed by his wife of nearly 75 years, Evelyn; five daughters: Helen Lemke, Janie Bowers, Carol (Bill) Ver Hagen, Diane (Bob) Oudenhoven, and Shari (Dan) Nagan; 20 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great grandchildren; and a sister, Anne Verkuilen. Martin was preceded in death by his parents; infant daughter, Frances; son and daughter in law, Ron Sr. and Mary Van Schyndel; son-in-law, Lloyd Bowers; grandchildren: Danny Oudenhoven, Lyle Bowers, Orv Jr., Mike and Jodi Lemke; great-grandchild, Tiffany Van Schyndel; five brothers and one sister: Barney, Hank (Jen), Rich (Ceil), Joe (Elaine), Arnie (Aggie), and Frances (Bob) Draphel. Family and friends may call Wednesday, March 7, 2012, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at St. Clare Parish-St. Paul site, Wrightstown. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 5:00 p.m. Wednesday at church, with Fr. Dennis Bergsbaken officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
