Marlin William Ambrosius

May 2, 1937 — May 12, 2016

Marlin “Darky” Ambrosius, 79, De Pere, passed away Thursday, May 12, 2016 surrounded by his family. He was born on May 2, 1937 to the late Louis and Marie (Minten) Ambrosius in Wrightstown. After graduating from Wrightstown High School in 1955, Marlin served his country in the United States Army from 1955-1957. After his return from Germany, he married Marilyn Vander Bloomen on June 3, 1958 at St. Boniface Catholic Church, De Pere. Marlin was a truck driver for over 40 years, logging over 5 million miles with an excellent driving record. He was awarded and commended “Driver of the Month”, December 1993 for the State of Wisconsin. After his retirement, Marlin drove tour bus for Lamers. Throughout his life, Marlin enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, golfing and traveling. He was an avid Brewers and Packers fan, attending many games with family and friends. Marlin loved reading, politics, history and making people laugh. Marlin’s greatest passion was attending his grandchildren’s activities. Marlin is survived by his loving wife, Marilyn; daughters, Laura Quinette, Jean Patterson, Karen (Scott) Tate, Lisa (Gary) Podraza, Amy (Jerry) Lancelle; son, Jeff (Cathy) Ambrosius; grandchildren, Courtney (Sam) Gerges, Sam Patterson, Nick Patterson, Megan (Ben) Ambrosius-Ward, Mackenzie Ambrosius, Stephanie Tate, Austin Podraza, Lexi Podraza, Billy (Chelsea) Lancelle, Maria Lancelle; great-grandchild, Riley Gerges; his sister, Clara (Ken) Kamps; brother-in-law, Carl Verstegen; sisters-in-law, Phyllis Ambrosius, Dorothy (Dale) Schinke, Bonnie (Roger) Lamers, Sue Slater, Linda (Ron) Watermolen; many nieces, nephews and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Marie Ambrosius; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Lillimae and Carl Vander Bloomen; son-in-law, Mike Quinette; brothers, Bob Ambrosius, Rick Ambrosius; sisters, Verna Leroy, Doris Verstegen; brothers-in-law, Louis Raska, John Leroy; sister-in-law, Gen Ambrosius; nephew, Paul Kamps. Family and friends may visit at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish, 1307 Lourdes Ave., De Pere, on Tuesday, May 17, 2016 from 8:30 am to 10:15 am. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Marlin at 10:30 am with Fr. Tim Shillcox, O.Praem officiating, Deacon Mike Vander Bloomen assisting. Interment in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Cotter Funeral Home and Crematory is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be sent to www.cotterfuneralhome.com. A memorial fund has been established in Marlin’s name.
