Margaret "Peggy" Ward

August 19, 1936 — May 2, 2016

Peggy Ward, age 79, of Green Bay, passed away peacefully on May 2, 2016 in Eugene, Oregon surrounded by family at home. She enjoyed a wonderful last year in Oregon with her daughter, Carrie and son-in-law, Brian. The daughter of the late Allen and Dorothy (Cornelissen) Koenig was born August 19, 1936 in Green Bay. She was active in 4-H growing up, and went on to become a long-time leader of the Starlette’s 4-H club later in life. She graduated as salutatorian from De Pere High School in 1953 and later worked for Northern Paper Mill. She married Ronald Ward on July 16, 1960 in Glenmore – together they enjoyed a life rich with family and friends. They delighted in socializing and traveling, near and far. Peggy’s foremost passion in life was for horses. She loved to participate in trail rides and horse shows with the Rough Riders Saddle Club. She volunteered her time with several youth clubs and taught many of the neighborhood kids how to ride. Among Peggy’s many other passions were reading, gardening, baking, knitting, painting, sketching and playing music. In addition to playing piano at home, she played trombone with the Luxemburg-Casco Community Band for over 30 years. Throughout her life, her free spirit was an inspiration to many, and her hearty laugh was loved by all. She will be remembered fondly by all who have had the good fortune to know her. Survivors include her children; Tom Ward of Green Bay, Alan Ward of Eagle River, Lisa Leiterman of De Pere, Chuck (Kristin) Ward of Sun Prairie, Carrie (Brian) Roddy of Oregon and Adam Ward of Oregon; grandchildren: Jay Leiterman, Benjamin Ward and Sam Ward; brothers and sisters: Pat (Terry) Mantor, Dave (Julie) Koenig, Diane (Mike) Lotto, Lyle (Lynn) Koenig, Mike (Debbie) Koenig, Karen (Jeff) Franken, Marcia (Joe) Benmour and Bart (Julie) Koenig; sisters-in-law; Marcia Ward, Phyllis Gering, Kathy Ward and Darlene Ward, all of Green Bay; as well as many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Peggy was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald in 2008; her parents, Allen and Dorothy; her sister, Sr. Jacqueline Koenig and an infant brother, Donald; son-in-law, John P. Leiterman; brothers-in-law: Sam, Bill and Galen Ward. Family and friends may visit at Cotter Funeral Home, 860 N.
