Margaret A. Herzog

February 19, 1937 — May 22, 2024

Margaret Ann Herzog (nee Fronk) passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 22, at her home with her son Joe by her side.

Marge was born on February 19,1937, in Manitowoc, WI and grew up the daughter of Ed and Ethel Fronk, owners of Fronk’s Bakery, a long time Manitowoc institution. Margaret, along with her younger sisters Ellen and Eileen, spent many years helping with the family business.

Marge attended Lincoln High School in Manitowoc, where she was homecoming queen with her king, Tom Herzog, who later became her husband.

She went on to graduate from St. Marys School of Nursing in Milwaukee and had a career as a labor and delivery and high risk prenatal care registered nurse; 12 years at St. Marys Hospital in Milwaukee and 27 years at St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay. Her coworkers referred to her as “Mother Marge”, saying she always had words of wisdom to share when asked. Nurses said she was a wonderful coworker and team player, just quietly taking great care of her patients.

When Marge and Tom moved their growing family from Milwaukee to Green Bay in October of 1971, they bought a home in Allouez where they spent the rest of their lives.

Anyone you ask will tell you that Margie is the nicest person they ever met. She always asked questions, listened intently to your answer, offered advice (but not too much), and celebrated your joy.

Her grandchildren say she made the best pancakes and “Special K” bars in the world.

She always brought her homemade baked beans and ham to any event, especially if you were moving so she could feed your helping friends.

Marge and her family would often return home in the evening after dining out to find bowls in the sink and a note on the kitchen table: “Hi, we stopped in for some ice cream, but nobody is home. Made ourselves a sundae-thanks”. Because there always were gallons of ice cream in the freezer and people were always welcome to just pop in - so they did.

Marge is survived by her children: Susan (Matthew) Schueler of Chicago, Thomas (Carrie) of Victorville, CA, Reinhardt Joseph of Green Bay, Kathryn

(Michael) Carley of Weymouth, MA. Grandchildren Anna, Nicole, Claire, Joe, Eric, Will, Ella, and Bo. Marge is further survived by her sister Ellen

of Green Bay and sister Eileen of Menomonie, WI, as well as

many nieces and nephews, other relatives and treasured nursing friend Chris.

Preceding Marge in death are her parents Ed and Ethel Fronk, her husband

Tom, and grandson Henry.

Friends and family may gather on Thursday, May 30, 2024, from 4 to 4:45 PM at St. Matthews Catholic Church, 130 St. Matthews St., Green Bay. The mass of Christian burial will be held at 5PM, Fr. Robert Kabat officiating. Marge will be laid to rest in a private ceremony at Allouez Catholic Cemetery. Cotter Funeral Home is assisting the family.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Unity Hospice, Curative Connections, caregiver Lisa Dorner, Shelly Kassha at TruColors Salon, and Mark VanRite and everyone at The RitePlace, for their never ending kindness and support to Marge over the years.
